A family-focused session in the Pocono mountains.

A session I definitely won't forget as it was the first time I ever played, let alone stood on, a frozen lake. I won't lie, I was originally very hesitant to step onto it. I kept having fear of the ice cracking and falling through.

But then I saw how much fun the Lincke's were having dancing, running, twirling around on the lake that any fear I had melted away. My feet were carrying me forward before I could even think about it and next thing I knew, I was right there laughing, twirling, making new memories right alongside them.

I used to have this fear that because I'm not a parent, I won't photograph family sessions in the right light because I don't connect the same way. I don't yet truly understand that level of love and admiration, or what it means to have photos of my kids through their different ages and stages.

I had this nagging thought in the back of my head that I was failing my clients because I couldn't capture the essence of parenthood, but then I realized: I was once a child.

I know what it means to have photos of my childhood to look back on and remember what it felt like to be in new places as well as familiar spaces. To feel comforted by my family. To explore and experience new things. To feel big feelings. To laugh myself to sleep. When the world felt so big and weird but magical all at the same time.

So,that's how I've been approaching family sessions: through the lens of a kid. To honor the reverence I hold for childhood and what it means to be one and understand that as I enter new chapters my work and approach may shift, but for now the voice is quiet, the fear has subsided, and my heart is full.

Recently I hosted my very first photowalk in downtown Bethlehem and went into it with the intention of following whatever called to me. Pretty immediately, the charm of the old historic houses and buildings took over. Going into 2026 following my intuition and curiosity is an area I’m going to explore more and this walk was a practice in it.

While walking about, I paid attention to the different styles of architecture. Luckily for me, many buildings had the plaques of when they were originally built. Many of the buildings pictured are around 200 years old or older. It’s insane to think that these same walls have survived a world that has rapidly changed without much change themselves.

If walls could talk, I would sit and revel in the stories they had to share.
