This morning I grabbed my favorite mug and filled it with coffee to help wake me up. As I lifted it to my mouth for my first sip, I realizedβit was cold. Not the hot, fresh first sip I was hoping for, but a cold, old cup of coffee. Even creamer and whipped cream wonβt help a cold cup of coffee. Somehow when I prepped our coffee pot the night before, I started it instead of setting the timer.
Needless to say, the cold sip woke me up differently than I desired. As I made a fresh pot of coffee, I remembered that God is a giver of fresh grace, not stale mercy and promises from the day before. He is not a God who gives his children scraps of leftovers but a God who pours his mercy continuously on our needy hearts through Christ.
As a follower of Jesus, I long for my life to show this world that his grace is real and abundant and only possible through my perfect Savior, but often I live like that cold cup of coffee. My love for him grows cold when I place the world before the Word and yield to my flesh rather than the Spirit.
And yet, his grace is greater, and he can make a cold soul piping hot again through the power of his Word and the Holy Spiritβs work. I replaced my cup of cold coffee with a cup of fresh, hot coffee and sipped it with gratitude in my heart that wouldnβt have been there if Iβd not tasted the stale coffee this morning. Whatever your soul is feeling todayβcold, lukewarm, or hotβbring Jesus your empty cup and let him fill it up with fresh grace, friend. βGretchen, Founder
