Born to Track is owned by John and Jolanta Jeanneney of Berne, NY. We have been breeding standard wirehaired dachshunds out of European hunting bloodlines since 1968. These "teckels" are bred and used for tracking wounded big game such as deer, bear, moose and elk. We are co-founders of Deer Search, North American Teckel Club and United Blood Trackers. We have authored and published two books "Tra

John Jeanneney and I could never have imagined how popular blood tracking would become across North America.

Many years ago, together with a small group of dedicated friends, we helped co-found United Blood Trackers. What started as the passion and vision of just a handful of people has grown into a strong community of trackers and tracking dogs helping hunters recover wounded game across the continent.

So many people have given their time, energy, knowledge, and passion to this movement over the years.
My deepest thanks to everyone who helped blood tracking take root, grow, and become what it is today. John would have been very proud to see how far it has come. ❤️

It still amazes me how well this book continues to do. In the last 30 days alone, I sold over 60 copies!
"Tracking Dogs for Finding Wounded Deer" was first released in the fall of 2003 and has gone through several updates over the years. John Jeanneney wrote it, and I (Jolanta) edited and published it. Together, we never imagined it would become as successful—or as enduring—as it has. ❤️
The book is self-published, and I am the only one who prints it. Any other sellers you see are resellers. All told, we’ve now sold over 15,000 copies 🎉📗

The two photos show the contents of just two drawers in John's filing cabinets. There are twelve drawers altogether. As many of you know, John Jeanneney was a history professor at Hofstra University and an incredibly organized man—much more than I will ever be! But he also kept everything. There’s a separate folder for every meeting, workshop, presentation, organization, dog breed… you name it.
Now it’s up to me (Jolanta) to sort through all of it, decide what’s worth preserving, digitize the important parts, and eventually release much of it as e-books. The sheer volume is overwhelming, and yes, I’ve procrastinated long enough. This winter, it will be my main project. I need to do it before I kick the bucket and it all ends up at the dump.

Please join me in celebrating Aldo’s 400th recovery (on Sept 20)! 🦌🐾 This incredible achievement is the result of countless hours, long nights, and miles in the woods with his dedicated handler, Lindsay Ware, Large Game Blood Tracking. Aldo is 8.5 years old and he tracks on leash only.

Aldo’s nose and heart combined with Lindsay’s unwavering commitment have brought closure to hundreds of hunters and ensured that so many animals did not go to waste. ❤️ Their teamwork is a true example of what persistence, passion, and respect for wildlife look like.

400 recoveries doesn’t happen by chance—it’s the product of years of training, grit, and a deep love for the work. Lindsay, your dedication to tracking inspires all of us. 👏👏

🎉 Happy 13th Birthday, Thor! 🎉
You are the most accomplished dog we’ve ever bred, and it’s truly incredible how much you've helped hunters recover their wounded deer over the years.
A huge thank you to Bob Yax—not only for all the tracking work, but for the deep love and dedication you’ve shown Thor throughout his life.
I’m sharing an old collage of Thor’s recoveries from 2019, since I simply can’t keep up with all the amazing work you two continue to do.
Sadly, Thor’s littermates Theo and Tuesday are no longer with us, but they are remembered with love today too. 💔🐾

Even though I no longer breed Teckels, I still love receiving updates about dogs from my breeding ❤ Just a few days ago, Boone (Isaac von Moosbach-Zuzelek) became a father to three pups—two boys and a girl. The mother, Bren von Lowenherz (FC Harley Hooper vom Bienenwald SCN × FC Uschi von Lowenherz), and Boone (Yukon von Moosbach-Zuzelek × Odette von der Dohlmühle) are both accomplished tracking dogs. They are owned and loved by Jason Pollack and Megan Given Pollack of New York.

I have retired from breeding, but it is great to see that some of the teckels from my breeding continue to produce quality offspring. Recently, five pups were born with "von Moosbach-Zuzelek" dogs on both sides of the pedigree. On March 4, Willette Brown's FC Delilah von Moosbach-Zuzelek, aka “Dilly,” had three boys and two girls. Dilly is the 2024 DCA National Field Trial Winner, and she is out Odin von der Dohlmühle and Xena von Moosbach-Zuzelek. The sire of the litter is Sherry Ruggieri's FC Keszitő a Keleti Tűz, TKI, BCAT, CGC, UBT1, who comes from an exceptional breeding of Zale von Moosbach-Zuzelek "Aldo" to FC Tüsöksori-Ugrasztó Husniya, ROMX "Niya". We are thrilled!

Yesterday I saw Bob's post: Thor's recovery this morning was one I could have never imagined 13 seasons ago when he found his first deer at the age of 5.5 months…
Today, Thor had his 500th recovery ! 🦌 494 Deer & 6 Bear
Back in 2012, Thor recovered 11 deer and I thought that someday he could hit 100 - Man ! did underestimate him.

This is an amazing accomplishment and makes Thor the most successful teckel we have ever bred. Thank you Bob for all your hard work, your passion and dedication ❤❤❤ Thor, we are so proud of you!

We’re in the middle of tracking season, and book sales of Tracking Dogs for Finding Wounded Deer have picked up. In October alone, I sold over 100 copies. Thank you to everyone who has recommended the book to friends, fellow trackers, and hunters.
I have a question for you. The last update to the book was in 2019—a small modification about the legalization of tracking. The prior update, in 2016, was much more substantial. Some things have changed since then. Do you think it would be beneficial to do another update? Of course, a large part of the book would remain unchanged, as it includes John’s writing, but new factual information could be added. And don’t worry about me 'ruining' the book; I did the last two updates with John’s input.
So, please answer:
1. Should the book be updated—yes or no?
2. What new topics relevant to blood tracking should be covered?

I am so happy for Wyatt. Huge congratulations! Tuck is out of Odin and Xena, and he is a littermate to Brownie and Bindi.
