I'm still smiling...I recently entered three images in the Arkansas Professional Photographers' annual Print Competition. • Three Merit Images
• Two Judge's Choice Ribbons
• Best Photograph of an Animal
• Best Photograph of a Child
Every competition reminds me why I love creating portraits that tell stories. Thank you to everyone who trusts me with your families, your children, and especially your beloved dogs. Your stories inspire my work every day! ❤️

As I continue to work on the Women & Their Dogs series, I'm reminded of the important roles our pets play in our lives. Sometimes, it's just to play! Lee Ann said "He is a happy dog. You cannot be sad around him. He makes me smile and laugh which is good for the soul."

While I've been photographing remarkable women and the dogs who have changed their lives, sometimes I can't resist sharing one of the stars by themselves. Isn't she magnificent? Those eyes!!! Every portrait reminds me why this project has become so meaningful.

There's something special about watching the connection between a woman and her dog unfold in front of my camera. Pauline shared "My dogs are companions, teammates, and family. Each one has been shaped differently, and I love learning who each of them are as individuals." Pauline has two water dogs, one French, the other Italian. You'll have to wait and see which one is selected for the Women and Their Dogs series!

Had to take a quick break at my grandson’s last baseball game to grab a quick photo of the cutest fur baby at the park. Her name is Poppy and she was certainly “peppy”! I can’t refuse a cute fur face!🐾🥰

Before I left, I had the opportunity to photograph the first session in my Women & Their Dogs portrait series. This project is about connection, companionship, and the love we share with our dogs—and this image really captures that spirit. Cindy shared, “In this quiet moment, a lifetime of love speaks for itself.” I'm excited to be back and continuing the series over the next several weeks. More stories and portraits coming soon. 🤍

Had to share. Also, the Women and Their Dogs project is doing great; several sessions have been completed. I’ll be sharing some examples soon! Stayed tuned!

We are their whole world their safety, their joy, their routine, their favorite sound. While our lives are full of people, tasks, screens, and endless distractions, theirs is mostly just... us. Waiting by the door. Curling at our feet. Watching our face for clues about how the day will go.

So yes. Pet a little longer, even when you're tired. Walk a little farther, even when it's cold. Give that extra treat for no reason at all. Take the scenic route, the beach trip, the car ride with the windows down. These small things aren't small to them they're the highlight of an entire day, maybe an entire week.

Because one day you'll wish you had. And they'll have loved you completely either way. But they'll remember every single extra moment you chose to give. 🐾

A quick update on my Women & Their Dogs portrait series...

Shortly after selecting participants, I needed to travel to North Carolina to be with my sister, who was experiencing complications from cancer treatment. As a result, the project was temporarily put on hold while I focused on my family.

I'm happy to say that I'm now back home and ready to move forward.

Thank you to everyone who has been so patient and understanding. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with the women who were selected and beginning the next phase of this project over the coming weeks.

This series has already reminded me how powerful the bond between women and their dogs can be, and I can't wait to share these stories with you.

Stay tuned...
