Everyone has a unique journey, and I’m honored to share mine.
Born and raised in India, I have always chosen to see the positive side of life. I truly believe the world is a good place and that each of us has something meaningful to contribute.
My path has not been easy. My father battled alcoholism, and while his addiction deeply affected our family, he was also a loving father when sober. and if I had to do it all over again, I would still choose him. His addiction took a physical and emotional toll on our family. When my mother had to travel abroad for work, my sister and I were left with relatives who did not always treat us kindly. Those years were difficult, but they taught me resilience.
At 18, I began working toward financial independence, paying for my own education and eventually earning a law degree. Entering the corporate world at such a young age introduced new trials. I faced sexism, age discrimination, and sexual harassment. There were many moments when I felt defeated, but I held on to my faith and kept moving forward.
When I moved to the United States after getting married, I had to start over from scratch. I couldn’t work, couldn’t drive, and knew no one. Later, as a mother raising a child without a support system nearby, I learned to become my own army.
When I finally received my work permit and returned to the workforce, I started at the bottom again and worked my way up through multiple roles, promotions, layoffs, and constant reinvention. Through every challenge, I learned that no job is beneath me, that hard work carries dignity, and that it’s never too late to begin again.
Looking back, I don’t see the hardships that tried to break me. I see the strength they built within me. I see resilience, faith, perseverance, and hope.
Your circumstances do not define your future.Your attitude, your faith, and your determination do.
And that is the story I continue to write every single day.
Angela Joseph | SELF Project Feature
Angela has been a dear friend for many years, and what I admire most about her is how she lifts others up, finds the good in difficult situations, and demonstrates what true resilience looks like.
As I listened to her share her story for my SELF Project, I was reminded that some of the strongest people aren't the ones who have had easy lives. They're the ones who have faced hardship, healed, rebuilt, and still choose hope.
Angela's story is a beautiful reminder that your past does not define you. Your courage, your faith, and your willingness to keep moving forward do.
The SELF Project was created to celebrate the stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and honored.
If you have a story of resilience, reinvention, healing, or personal growth, I would love to hear from you.
✨ Applications for the SELF Project are now open. Details below.
