My goal with every session is to create photos that will stand the test of time. I don't use many props, but if I do...they are not going to be overly trendy. Otherwise, we run the risk of dating the photo (puffy sleeves and banana clip headpieces from 80s weddings, anybody??)

One of the things I discuss in discovery calls with potential new clients is LOCATION.

I am fortunate to be able to offer in-studio, in-home, and on-location sessions.

For maternity, the studio is hands down my favorite location. I love the privacy and how it lends itself to more intimate sessions. Also the light...over the years, I've come to embrace dramatic light and incorporate it as part of my signature style.

There is SO MUCH talk about mindset in the photography industry. Is mindset important? Yes, of course! But the truth is, mindset alone can only get you halfway there.

Sweetest little baby doll! Over the past few years, I have moved towards more in-home newborn sessions than posed studio sessions.

I love the studio, especially for maternity and the winter months when the weather is unpredictable but I feel like everyone is more relaxed at home with a tiny baby and the photos we get are so organic and a perfect 'slice of life' for such a special time.

Have you ever found yourself scratching your head wondering how you can break into a new niche or how you can use mini sessions to BUILD your business, instead of cheapen your brand?

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of photographing this beautiful woman. A professional psychotherapist, empowerment coach, and rockstar mom!

She is a perfect example of how I have used mini sessions to find my IDEAL client. We met a few years ago when I set up a limited edition pop-up photo event and I photographed her boys.

Fast-forward, even though she met me as a 'child photographer,' I was the photographer that she chose to hire for her headshot/personal branding session.

One of the things I am most excited to offer in my group coaching program is a comprehensive portfolio review. I'll be working with both experienced photographers as well as those who are just starting to build their businesses. In line with that, this famous quote caught my eye today. Never forget that we ALL had a Day 1 on this journey to becoming a professional photographer. None of us came straight out of the gate with a swoon-worthy portfolio...but that doesn't mean that you won't get there.

One of my most soul searching moments as a photographer was after I had been doing it for more than half a decade. People were paying me for my work and leaving great reviews...but I got some really critical (dare I say, harsh) criticism on my portfolio.

I felt deflated, sad, and almost ready to throw in the towel. But I didn't...

I took the feedback and used it to grow. I realized that the criticism stung because deep down, I agreed with it. I did have room for improvement.

I remember that as a turning point. I dug deep and found ways to infuse more emotion into my images.

I can't wait to help others to get to this next level in their own journey. Feel free to DM me if you want more info.
