A mama I have worked with before reached out again, this time for a session for her twins and their new baby sister. The request was simple. Her husband loves anything Marvel, and the girls basically live in their Spidey costumes, so we brought that into the session.

It was chaotic in the best way. I worked fast while mom and dad held the girls upside down over their sleeping sister, which is not exactly my usual approach, but that is what made it so fun! Sessions like this remind me that families are not cookie cutters, and the best portraits come from real personalities, not posed perfection.

This is why I love what I do. Whatever your family looks like right now, spidey energy included, it deserves to be remembered. (The image of the leg in the air and the other checking her webs is my favorite. 🫶🏻😂)

A curated gallery of images. It’s part of my process to help you choose your favorites.

Why?

So you’re not scrolling through everything trying to decide alone.

I showed a client of mine 60 images. We narrowed it down to all her favorites. All #33 of her favorites. I mocked up her wall, true to scale, showing artwork of various sizes, in a frame that suits her interiors. It takes out guesswork.

Loved isn’t the same as seen.

You don’t have to figure out what to do with your images by yourself, or guess how they’ll look on your wall. That’s what I’m here for. 🤍

Everyone worries about getting dressed and smiling.

That is not the hardest part. The letting go is.

During a recent session, two brothers were far more interested in the creek than the camera. So I let them. I joined in the exploration, gave them small directives to keep them engaged with me. Stand on this log. Tickle each other. A little magic unfolded. 🪄

A little of it was posed. All of it was the story.

I have been doing this for over twenty years, and I have learned that the images people treasure most are not the ones where everyone held it together. They are the ones where mom and dad let go.

Your family portrait session does not need to be perfect. It needs to be true. I will handle the rest.

Petite sessions are back this fall, and I’m doing them a little differently this year.

5 nights. 5 of my favorite spots around Bend. Only 2 families per night and 20 minutes instead of 10, so there’s room to actually enjoy it instead of feeling rushed.

She did not need to become anything. She just needed portraits that show who she already is.

Among many titles, she is a business owner, a maker, and a mother raising girls who are watching her every move. This session was just for her. Just a woman who stepped in front of the camera and let herself be seen.

She trusts me completely and that changes everything. That kind of trust is everything to me. When someone gives me that I can give them something they will hang on their wall and feel something every time they walk past it.

I can already picture her and her dog in a gold frame on that blue wall.

The portraits you print are the ones your kids will grow up seeing on the walls or in a book on the coffee table…. and the ones that tell them how much they were loved.

That’s what I want for you. And that’s why I do it this way.

So much joy in the studio lately!

There is something about a mama and her third trimester that just lights a room. The way she holds her unborn child. The way she laughs. The way she already loves someone so much that she hasn’t even met yet.

These are the moments I get to help mamas remember. Because in 10 years, she is going to want to remember how this felt. 🤍
