4 reasons to book engagement photos:

1. Document this stage in your relationship
Whether you’re engaged for 6 months or 2 years, the time in your life where you have a fiancé is so special and so much fun! Having photos to document this period will be something you’ll enjoy looking back on for years.

2. Get to know your photographer
If you’re booking a shoot with your wedding photographer, it helps you be more comfortable with them on your wedding day. Your photographer is someone you will spend a lot of time with on your day, and already having a connection with them outside of phone calls and email can help to settle nerves. You already know what to expect!

3. Grow more comfortable in front of the camera
Believe it or not, most of my couples mention at some point in their consultation that they are not comfortable having photos taken! While it is a job that I am more than happy to do to make everyone feel comfortable and relaxed while they’re getting photos taken, having that additional shoot before your wedding day can make a big difference for confidence! Engagement shoots allow for a more relaxed environment than a wedding day where we can slow down and take breaks from photos. Also, once you see photo evidence that you are, in fact, a beautiful couple who can take photos together, wedding photos are a breeze! 😉

4. They’re the perfect way to trail hair and makeup
One of my favorite things is when my couple uses their photos to trial hair and makeup for their wedding! Not only is it so much fun to have that extra bit of pampering and prep before photos, it helps you fully visualize how you will look on your day and what your photos will look like. Seeing hair and makeup in professional photos can also help you make notes if there’s anything you’d like to tweak, like your lip or eye shadow color.

Not every wedding day has a golden hour, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take portraits during that time! I love golden (or in this case, blue) hour photos; they are often more relaxed and include more movement than photos taken before the ceremony when we’re all working hard to preserve makeup and avoid stains. PNW clouds may obscure the sunset, but I’ll still be taking my couples for a few minutes during the reception to take some photos 🤎
