MISSING DOG ALERT: Our dog Chili went missing yesterday in the Sunnyland neighborhood. The last sighting was on Ellis street going towards Assumption church though she could be really anywhere in the Bellingham area at this point.
If you’re in the Bellingham area please keep an eye out for her and share this post to help get maximum number of eyes on it.

It may suck to walk around in, but damn those reflections are nice.

It’s taken me longer than I’d like to admit to understand what makes a portrait of someone stand out. We know what a good photo is when we see it but what are the elements that make that up?
Sure there are rules to follow; angles, color toning, framing/composition, etc… but ultimately the conclusion I think I’ve come to is that if the person you’re photographing isn’t comfortable with you on a personal level then your photos will look bad-to-generic.
In the book Blink talks about the power of the first impression and the snap judgements we make when meeting new or encountering a new or unusual situation. He highlights the fact that the quick calculations we make within the first 15-seconds or so when meeting a new person - are the outlooks that stick indefinitely about 95% of the time.
I take this to mean we only have about 15-seconds to make a strong lasting impression on someone - and if you blow that first 15-seconds you’re working with a 5% odd of win them over.
And I think this is an incredibly important thing for photographers to understand because if you can make a strong personal connection with your client and empower them all within that first 15-seconds then you have the recipe to good photos.

In case you haven’t heard of the ; their mission is to open up the experience of boating and getting out on the water for people of all economic backgrounds, and I think that’s pretty noble. You should check out their
page and website and see their offerings!
Last week they hosted a Concert on the Bay, next to Taylor dock for anyone who could make it out to join, and judging by everyone’s mood - it was a success!
Getting to climb the rope ladder on the undocked was probably one of the cooler things I’ve gotten to do in my photography career 😎 next to going on stage at Downtown Sound of course.
In the endless search in finding and participating in activities that are fulfilling to my soul; this was a big one.

If you haven’t made it to Downtown sounds yet there is one more week! Hope to see you all this Wednesday 😄
Events like downtown sounds and the summer block parties I feel are some of things that makes us uniquely Bellinghamers. Sure this sort of thing happens elsewhere, but the passion in which we throw and attend these events shouldn’t be discounted. There’s an electricity in the air, everyone is happy, we’re all there for the combined goal of just having a good time and to listen to quality live music. For that time regardless of who you are; we’re all neighbors.

Also big shout out to my friends over and for believing in me and helping me make the connections to volunteer for photography on something like this. I believe in being wholesome and staying true to your value, and if you follow your passions the universe will respond in kind. I’m sure glad the universe has brought me the friends it has 😄

I probably should have used a narrower aperture on this photo for a less harsh focal blur. I think it’s at 2.8 but probably would have worked better at 4 🤷🏻‍♂️ I guess I’ll just have to do better next time 😄
