“Bridges”

A long time since I have posted, but to start this year’s series, here is a capture taken at Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point last Saturday.

With fog and light pollution, I used a grad filter with the darken side in the bottom, which had a positive effect.

"The Path"

The hike down from the parking area to Burney Falls was mixed with sun, shadows, and mists - three perfect ingredients for this style of imagery that I have been trying to find for a while.

This was also taken the day after our election. The distant light symbolizes my hope that we will journey to brighter days, no matter what obstacles and darkness that have clouded us now.

Burney Falls on a sunny November morning.

This shot was challenging for me in many ways. The light difference between the sun-lite area against the fall is large. Also, there was a lot of water spray that would immediately caused the lens to be covered in water droplets.

"Fogged"

Taken at an increasing foggy morning at Golden Gate Bridge 2 days before the election, the title just about sums up how some folks feels about the obscured uncertainty going forward, visually and phonetically.

Artistically, I debated hard abou color vs black and white, but chose B&W at the end to make the message more simple. Otherwise, this picture is pretty much straight out of the camera.

"A Fleeting Glimpse"

It's been a while since I have posted! While the PNW enjoyed a beautiful weather day on Saturday, Mount Shuksan was covered in a foggy mist which lends to this concept of glimpsing another world that I have had in my mind for a while.

"Sunset at Lummi"

We saw a special and spectacular sunset on Lummi Island last night. The sky was cloudy but as the sun peak through the cloud layers, vivid colors burst through in the clouds.

"Dream World"

Later on the same night "The Bridge" photo was taken, Steven Webber Photography had nudged me to do a panorama of the scene.

This 8-photo set was taken at about 2am, about 30 minutes before the moon rises. The sky was beginning to have that blue hue. This set was taken with a 35mm, at f1.4, ISO 6400 on the D810 camera.

Here is the first edit of this panorama.

"The Bridge"

This is my first Milky Way shot in Pacific Northwest this year, with no moon and a clear night. For this particular shot, I used a 50mm set to 15sec f1.8 @ ISO 6400 on my D810.

It was also a great night to experiment, as I shot with 24mm, 35mm, and this 50mm. I rather liked the 50mm, as this has not been my go-to for Milky Way shots, but this focal length framed the two subjects really well from the Lost Lake viewpoint.

As this is early in the Milky Way season, this shot was made earlier in the morning, at about 1:30am. Moon rise at 2:30am helped placed a window for this shoot.

Special shoutout to Steven Webber Photography for the company, suggestions, and being an awesome partner on this shot!

"The Path"

Maui's Haleakala National Park offered an incredibly diverse scenery, including this famed bamboo forest.

For the title, I loved how each steps leads to the more light, even though it is surrounded dark and unknowns.

"Coming back to Life"

I had a brief chance to visit Joshua Tree National Park for a few hours a couple weeks ago, and found red flowers popping in the middle of this desert.

"Remember that Night"

On the day after David Gilmour's concert in LA, I ventured to La Jolla Cove for some seascape photos. The location did not disappoint! There are so many different composition possibilities.

For this one, I love the feeling of a soothing calmness, while the seas gently sparkles with dancing light and texture.
