I think a lot of moms initially picture maternity photos outdoors because that’s what we’ve traditionally seen for years. Golden fields, mountain views, sunset light. And while those sessions can absolutely be beautiful, studio maternity sessions solve a lot of the things that make pregnancy physically exhausting in the first place.

You don’t have to walk to a location while carrying the added weight of your precious belly. You don’t have to stress over weather, wind, heat, rain, or trying to squeeze everything into a tiny sunset window. There’s no battling humidity, changing in a car, or wondering if your toddler is already over it before the session even starts.

Instead, studio sessions create space for comfort.

A temperature controlled environment. A place to sit when you need to. Easy access to outfits, water, snacks, breaks, and all of the little things that make a huge difference when you’re growing a baby.

And honestly, stripping away the distractions changes the feeling of the images too. Without the scenery competing for attention, the focus naturally shifts back to the emotion of the season itself. The anticipation. The softness. The connection between mother and baby before they’ve even met.

Sometimes the plan changes—and honestly, those are often the moments I love most.

This little lady came in for a three-color session, with a soft sage set planned for the end. She gave it her all, but like many toddlers, there came a point where she was simply done. Instead of pushing through, we leaned into it—back into comfy clothes, snacks in hand, and a much-needed reset.

And just like that, she lit right back up.

I grabbed a blue backdrop to match her cozy outfit while she snacked, and those frames? Some of my favorites from the entire session. Because yes… she was a little hangry—but she was also completely, beautifully herself.

A gentle reminder that sometimes the magic isn’t in sticking to the plan. It’s in letting kids be exactly who they are in the moment. Toddlerhood is full of snack breaks, big feelings, and quick recoveries—and there’s something really special about capturing that as it is.

Because that’s the memory. That’s the expression. That’s childhood.

New Color Alert!

I recently picked up a chestnut backdrop and I don’t think I’ve ever fallen this fast for a color. It’s rich, warm, and photographs so beautifully—especially for those personality-filled moments that don’t need much else.

It has me thinking about offering something a little different—micro sessions in the studio that are short, simple, and focused on a single color each month. These would be quick 10–15 minute sessions and include 5 images—just enough to capture your little one exactly as they are right now without the time commitment of a full session.

Early access will be offered to my email list first, so if this has been on your mind, make sure you’re on there. You can find the link to get added to the list in my Bio! I’ll be sharing more soon.

A little late, but a very happy birthday to my sweet Telly. She had one request for her birthday photos—rainbow confetti—and it was every bit as fun and joyful as you’d imagine. This setup is now available for future birthday sessions in the studio, so if you’ve been thinking about a simple, colorful way to document your child’s next milestone, this is such a playful option.

I have such a soft spot for birthday sessions. They give us a way to hold onto a specific age—the personality, the silliness, the little quirks that feel so big right now and somehow change before we’re ready. As a mom, I know how quickly the days blur together. So many moments pass without a marker, and before you know it, you're trying to remember when exactly that version of them existed.

Birthday portraits create that anchor. A way to pause time, even just for a moment, and remember them exactly as they are.

If you’d love to book a birthday session like this for your own little one, I’d love to create something just as fun and personal for you.

Lately, I’ve felt a shift in the way I want to document this season of life for families.

I keep coming back to the studio. The quiet, the simplicity, the way it allows a a comfortable way for the moment to take center stage without distraction. It’s in that space that I’m able to slow down and notice the subtle things—the expressions, the movement, the in-between moments that define who your child is right now and how this moment is impactful.

Because of that, my work is evolving.

Studio sessions are becoming the core of what I offer, with a deeper focus on children’s portraiture, alongside newborn and maternity sessions that can be documented simply or with family.

Outdoor sessions aren’t going away—they’re just becoming more intentional. Wild and Free sessions will be reserved for returning studio clients, creating a more connected, full-circle experience over time.

There are updates coming soon to my offerings, pricing, and website to reflect this shift. Additional services and session planning will also be embedded into the booking process in a way that makes your sessions more seamless and allows us to plan the feeling of your session before you even set foot in the studio.

If a session has been on your mind this year, now is a good time to reach out while current options are still available.

I’m really excited about where this is headed, and grateful to have you here as it grows.

There is something especially meaningful about a personality session for a “big kid.” While I often see the earliest milestones, it is such a joy to slow down with children who are a little older—who come in with opinions, imagination, and a willingness to be completely themselves.

Because the milestones do not end after the first year. The child you see today will feel impossibly little again before you know it.

At this age, their personalities are vivid and ever-changing. The sass, the curiosity, the quiet hesitation, the boldness—all of it deserves to be remembered. These are the details that root you back in this exact season of childhood.

I see it in my own daughter, Stella. In her earlier portraits, she is soft and reserved, almost shy. Now she fills our home with noise and energy, racing through the kitchen and shouting at the top of her lungs. And somehow, both versions of her feel equally present when I look back. I’m so grateful to have held onto those quieter pieces of who she was, even as she grows into someone new.

That is what I love most about photographing children at this age—their character is never still. It shifts and expands, just as quickly as they do. And preserving even a small piece of that, exactly as it is right now, feels like holding onto something you were never meant to keep.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! This little guy brought all the soft, sleepy charm to the studio this week, wrapped in the sweetest shades of green. Such a calm, cozy newborn session and an absolute dream to photograph.

SEEKING NEWBORN MODELS

I’m currently booking a few newborn model sessions in the studio. If you or someone you know is expecting a baby who will be 1–2 weeks old within the next month, I’d love to connect. Model sessions include three complimentary images from your gallery, with the option to upgrade to the full set at a reduced rate. It’s a simple, meaningful way to capture those early days without overcomplicating things.

Monochrome studio sessions have quietly become my favorite.

If you’ve noticed more of them lately, it’s intentional. Before every session, I work with parents to choose a background and styling that keep the colors cohesive. Sometimes that means soft neutrals, sometimes rich color on color, but the goal is always the same — a simple, unified palette.

When the colors in an image work together like this, something shifts.

Your child’s personality becomes the center of the frame.

The expressions.
The movement.
The mischief.
The quiet moments.
The sass.

Children don’t need a lot of visual noise around them. When the frame is clean and the color palette is thoughtful, the focus naturally lands where it should: on the little human in front of the camera and the energy they bring with them.

These monochrome personality portraits are one of my favorite ways to photograph childhood. Stripped back backgrounds, cohesive color, and a whole lot of personality.

Because sometimes the simplest canvas lets childhood shine the brightest.

What if your child just isn’t in the mood for photos?

What if the smiles aren’t coming…
What if stranger danger takes over…
What if they simply won’t do the session?

I know this is a real fear for parents. And honestly? Sometimes it does happen—especially around the one-year stage when stranger danger is strong.

Take a breath. I won’t promise it never happens. But I will promise that my sessions are designed with this in mind. I’ve got you.

Here are a few of my tried-and-true approaches:

1. No rushed sessions
Personality sessions aren’t time-capped. Some kids warm up immediately. Others need a little time to feel safe—and that’s okay. I plan for that.

2. We make it fun
Music, toys, bubbles… and yes, sometimes a full hokey-pokey performance from me. I’m not afraid to work for those smiles.

3. We troubleshoot
Some kids need a few minutes with mom before I step in.
Some prefer a parent helping during the session.
Some might only cooperate if I’m being silly behind the camera.
We figure out what works.

4. Prep them beforehand
If your child is cautious in new situations, talk about the session ahead of time. Show them pictures on your phone. Let them know what to expect.

5. Sometimes we try again
On rare occasions, a child is simply having a hard day. If we truly can’t get them comfortable, we can schedule a re-do. Sometimes a second try makes all the difference.

Sensitive kids aren’t unusual—and they absolutely can have beautiful photo sessions.

The little guy pictured here used every step on this list… and by the end we had a gallery full of smiles and personality.

Your child doesn’t have to have it all figured out.

That’s my job.

Family photos are a yearly tradition in most homes.
Everyone in one frame. Laughing. Playing. Loving on each other.

And yes — that yearly refresh matters. It captures your family exactly as you are in this season.

But often, that’s the only professional photo we get of our children that year.

And as beautiful as those images are… they aren’t enough to hold the full memory of who your child is right now.

The things we ache to remember are quieter. More personal.
The way he squeals during peek-a-boo.
The way she drops into a full squat, grinning ear to ear when you sing her favorite song.
The boldness. The softness. The vibrant, effervescent personality that fills your home every single day.

A family session captures connection.
A child-focused studio session preserves identity.

Inside my Bellevue studio, we slow down. It’s calm. Intentional. Comfortable. A space designed so your child can unfold naturally — and so we can focus entirely on who they are in this fleeting chapter.

Because years from now, it won’t just be the family photo you revisit.
It will be them.

Their spirit. Their color. Their spark.
