Here We Are.
When we began planning this family film, I knew I didn't want to simply create a collection of beautiful clips at the beach. I wanted it to feel like a little film about them. So we built a loose story around the things that already belonged to their family.
Coffee and croissants. Books and chess. Collecting little pieces of nature. Conversations. Wandering. And plenty of room for whatever happened in between.
We started the evening with the sun filtering through the palm trees, before they ever entered the frame. Then they arrived. And the story began.
As the evening unfolded, the film moved with them. Quiet conversations on the rocks gave way to exploring and collecting flowers. Stillness became movement. And by the time they reached the water, they were running, chasing and splashing while my camera moved right along with them. At the end, we followed the story all the way back to the car. Sandy feet. Doors closing. Headlights coming on. Driving away.
And after they were gone?
The moon beside the palm trees.
Sun to moon. ☀️🌙
A tiny full circle hidden inside their film.
And maybe my favorite thing about this one is that her children aren't babies. They're 11 and 14. Family films don't have an expiration date when your children stop being little. There is something worth preserving about this age, too. Their voices. Their interests. Their humor. The way they move through the world independently, and the way they still find their way back to you.
That's what my film-only family sessions are built around: creative planning, intentional scene-building and gentle direction, with enough room for the real moments to take over. Not a script that tells your family who to be. A story built around who you already are.
