Happy International Women’s Day ✨

Of course I couldn’t let the day go by without showcasing some of the badass women I’ve had the privilege of supporting as a doula-tog. Women are the embodiment of what it means to be strong and I will forever be in awe of what we are capable of. How lucky am I to be one!

The first hour after birth is often called the Sacred Hour - and for good reason.

It’s during this time when baby’s heart rate, breathing, and temperature naturally regulate to the mother’s.

It’s also when powerful hormones flood both mother and baby - helping with bonding, calming, and even increases the likelihood of breastfeeding successfully.

Did you know that babies are born with instincts that can guide them to crawl toward the breast and latch on their own when they’re given uninterrupted time? 🥹

But beyond the science, the Sacred Hour is a moment for mom and baby to meet each other without interruption. For baby, this is a gentle transition into the world. For mom, a time for relaxation and reflection before embarking on the next step of motherhood with her new baby.

It’s quiet, powerful, and truly sacred. ✨

It’s hard to put this moment into words if you’ve never experienced it yourself.

It’s a mixture of immense relief, exhaustion, joy, and shock all at once. No words are needed to express how you’re feeling, the intensity of it all already flowing out of you.

Sometimes you need a few moments to come back down to earth and a look of reassurance from your midwife can go a long way.

I will never forget how this felt when I birthed my babies. It’s one of my favorite moments to experience with all the families I support, and one I will be coming back to in my dreams when I’m 80 🥹

I love being a doula but nothing brings me more joy than taking a step back to watch you and your partner do your thing. Nothing compares to the love and attention hubby brings to the birth space!

Above all, the connection between you and your partner is what matters most - while a doula is there to float and fill in the spaces in between.

This mama had her redemption birth and these two made it look so easy. The joy on her face in the last photo really says it all! And to think- this was about roughly 45 minutes from meeting her baby 🥰
