Why I do what I do 😭

Look, we can say what we want about birth, and there’s NO SHAME for doing what works best for you - truly.

But birthing unmedicated? There really is nothing else like it. There isn’t supposed to be.

It will leave you feeling transformed and illuminated if you allow it to.

And no, we don’t get trophies for going through it- but we do get something much better 😭💜

I’m beyond proud of my client, if only you knew how much she fought and how much power she pulled out of herself to birth her baby 😮‍💨👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

this is one I’ll be thinking about for a long time.

It’s official! I’m now a certified Girls Club teacher and I’m so excited!

The Girls Club is a space where girls will gather for support, education, and empowerment as they grow. This is literally all information I wish I had growing up and I can’t wait to share this with my community.

There’s so much power in knowledge and feeling confident in yourself, and it all starts in girlhood 🌸

Stay tuned because classes will begin this fall and space will be limited.

Also- I’ve decided to create a page just for Girls Club because my wish is for it to get big enough that it needs its own realm of information and content. I still plan on sharing some on here of course, but if you really want to stay in the loop for all things Girls Club go ahead and give my new account a follow 🤗

Can’t wait to share more SOON!

Just your friendly local doula reminding you that you can absolutely accomplish what you put your mind to.

For weeks we talked about what the birth could look like, what she wanted and envisioned - and we prepared. There’s always the possibility that things could go a completely different way, of course, and she knew that.

But the thing with birthing unmedicated or without pain meds is that you have to understand that it’s going to be intense, and you let it in anyways. You have to be completely tenacious and kind of unhinged about wanting it. That’s really the only way to get through it. It’s SUPPOSED to feel really big and you have to be willing to walk through fire to get there. You find a way to keep going. At the end of the day, there is no ‘trying’ - you do it or you don’t.

So even when those “what if” and incredibly intense moments came up she held her ground and was determined to birth her way. And she did.

I absolute LOVE when a mother realizes her power and runs with it. Those “holy s**t, I actually did it” feelings are SO GOOD 👏🏼👏🏼 and I’ll never tire of witnessing it.

✨ A Baby is Born ✨

Story time:

Sometimes when I play the role of doula-tog, it’s a balance between actively supporting my client and getting the shot.

I’ve played this role enough times that I’m pretty confident in my ability to do both now. That confidence just comes with time and practice. During our prenatals together, I talk about what this will look like and when it’s time for baby to emerge I do try to position myself so I can document it while the rest of her team offers more hands on support.

My clients also understands that sometimes their needs change in the moment and they don’t care as much for the photo as they do the active support - and I pick back up with the camera quickly, whenever I can.

However, when it’s a pretty intense hands on birth- like this one was- I give my client an option. I either position myself to get the shot or I keep my full attention on my client.

And even when my client wants me to keep holding their hand and loving on them, I still try to shoot- because at the end of the day - I was hired to do both and I do everything I can to still capture this exact moment.

So I’m really proud of the shots I got surrounding this moment. Because what you don’t see is me still hands-on supporting my client. Letting her grip my body tightly, verbally reinforcing her, facing the complete opposite direction I need to be facing to watch baby’s birth.

These shots were taken with the camera hoisted over my shoulder and shooting blind. Sometimes birth is a wild ride for everyone involved 😆
