These photos arrived in a suitcase.

Two suitcases, actually. Hastily collected from a home to make sure nothing got accidentally thrown away. Loose photos, albums, slides, frames...everything tossed in.

But that was the point where it got too overwhelming. How do you sort everything? How do you even begin to guess at dates?

And that's when I got a phone call and two suitcases full of memories showed up at my door! Maybe I'm weird, but I LOVE organizing and sorting things. I sat on my giant rug and put things into hundreds of piles, figuring out who was who and when (thank you, the 80s, for the very obvious perms--those are huge clues).

Now instead of two suitcases, they have a single photo box with photos in order by date.

If you're spring cleaning and come across that pile of family photos that overwhelms you, let me help! We'll get them sorted, digitized, and labelled.

It was the only photo he had of his high school graduation. When his basement flooded, guess which photo happened to be on the very bottom of the now-soaked box?

When I saw the extent of the damage, I honestly wasn't sure I could do much. But thanks to some internet sleuthing, I was able to find pictures from others in his graduating class, as well as his senior headshot. Is it a perfect replica of the original? No. There was just too much damage for me to be able to pull out details. But does he have a photo of his high school graduation to show his grandkids? He sure does!

This is the reason I do what I do.

Finished scanning over 700 negatives for a client this week! Absolutely gorgeous shots of France and Yellowstone. And all this was done on film! No digital preview to make sure everything was in focus, or had the correct lighting.

I love that film photography is making a comeback as a way to slow down and focus on being deliberate in what we choose to capture with our cameras.

This cute photo won a beauty contest! But sadly in the years since then, it was folded and stuck in a frame, leaving damage right across those sweet cheeks!

Thankfully I was able to repair the damage from the folding, as well as some spots of discoloration/mold that were starting to appear. One the digital restoration was done, I ordered a new giclée print (so fancy!). So happy that this beautiful portrait is back to its original, adorable glory!

Spring cleaning, anyone? I definitely struggle with motivation during the winter, so the warmer weather and SUNSHINE we're finally getting makes me want to take care of those projects I've been meaning to do since...October, apparently?

This year instead of ignoring that box of photos or dusty old album, why not go ahead and have them digitized? Scanning your old photos ensures that you won't lose everything in case of fire, flooding, or children with scissors and not enough supervision (mostly likely scenario at my house). And the best part is that you don't have to risk sending everything in the mail, because I'm right here in Harford County, Maryland!
