Christmas Eve Road Trip 12/24 & 12/25;
Went on a crazy but amazing Christmas Eve & Christmas early morning road trip encompassing 7 counties and 6 incredible Historic courthouses, to include ours that was photographed a few weeks ago. We wanted to do more, but we aren’t sure if they are all lit up. I wanna go to La Grange!! LOL 😆
Anyways, a good friend and I started out at 6pm on 12/24/25 and headed to Live Oak County, the scenes were great, but there was no lighting to the flags, so we tried “light painting” but it wasn’t enough, the wind wasn’t blowing yet either, so we did what we could. Took a photo of the Long Horn case too!! 😊
Then we headed up to Atascosa County, arriving in Jourdanton at 8pm and spending a little time there, it wasn’t as decked out as the others, but the lights were good, as was the crescent moon. Then we worked our way to Gonzales, I was excited, it’s a beautiful old courthouse built in 1896, but we were disappointed that it wasn’t decked out in lighting. Bummer, the courtyard was great, but I was after the effects of the courthouse.
So off we went to Halletsville, I took a few photos there on 12/22, but there were so many vehicles around the area, that we went on back there to get it, but before getting there, we were pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the Wilson County Courthouse, having arrived there at 10pm. We spent sometime there and got some great stuff. Even got checked out by the local Police. Thank you folks!! We loved the street lighting, and tried to incorporate into the photos at the end.
Then on to Halletsville where we were rewarded with only 3 cars around the courthouse, it was beautiful as you can see from the photos, these were taken around 1am. We then headed to Karnes County via Hope, Texas, (a very small community on the Dewitt County backroads) hoping to see if they had lighting up, we were pleasantly rewarded again with a spectacular show of lights along the streets and at the historic courthouse at 2am.
Total trip time 9 hours with 393.2 miles having gotten home at 3:00am, what an awesome road trip!!! And we thanked our Father above for a safe journey on this road trip allowing us to experience the beauty of Christmas in South Texas!!
Here are a few for your Christmas cheer, hoping you all had an amazing day and blessings to you all and may you have a very blessed New Year also!! 🥰
