Lowcountry Photo Safaris / Eric Horan Photography Lowcountry Photo Safaris with ERIC HORAN - Explore the South Carolina lowcountry with Eric Horan, professional wildlife photographer.

With international credits and 30 years shooting throughout the southeast, Eric offers unique, action packed tours. My tours are designed to offer photographers and outdoor enthusast an opportunity to explore the coastal southeast with a professional photographer as guide. I enjoy sharing my favorite destinations and wildlife action with other photographers and outdoor enthusiasts. Our trips are p

lanned with wildlife seasonal action and key dynamics that will support optimal shooting - up close and personal photo experience in the field. I have been emersed in nature and wildlife throughout my life as a professional photographer for over 40 years as well as off the job. Wildlife photography is my passion. I have lived and worked in the Carolina lowcountry (coastal region) since 1981 and have chosen this region as a base of operation because of the natural beauty and action it serves up daily. Addionally, this base allows easy access for me to provide tours outside the area to offer services to individuals, groups and clubs as guest speaker, presenter and photo tour leader beyond this region up & down the coastline and beyond.

Fellow Bird Photographers,

From May through July, the South Carolina coast hosts an incredible natural spectacle, as up to eight species of seabirds begin their nesting season. This follows on the heels of the spring shorebird migration and offers a unique window to witness the courting and nesting rituals of species such as the Brown Pelican, Royal, Sandwich, and Gull-billed Terns, the Black Skimmer, and the American Oystercatcher.

This year once again, Crab bank will host thousands of colony nesting seabirds like the Black Skimmer, Brown Pelican, Royal and Sandwich Tern

I am leading photo excursions to Three key areas during this period:

1/ Crab Bank (Charleston Harbor): Excellent for Brown Pelicans, Laughing Gulls, Black Skimmers, and various terns.
- Castle Pinckney (Charleston Harbor): Ideal for Oystercatchers and Gull-billed Terns
- Bird Key at the west end of Folly island

2/ Deveaux Bank (Edisto River): Great for pelicans, terns, and skimmers set against beautiful scenery.

3/ Tomkins Island (near Daufuskie): Focused on terns and pelicans, with nearby Turtle Island offering shorebirds, wading birds and gorgeous scenery.

These trips are all in my 18-1/2’ Jon boat, a shallow-water aluminum boat that accommodates up to four guests. I invite you to join me to experience this natural wonder and the rich biodiversity of our coastal region firsthand.

Our Tour on Friday was great largely because of the 12 mph winds. Temps were a cool 68 degrees and the birds were both active and restful at different stages of the outing We witnessed birds feeding and also resting. We focused mostly on the Whimbrel but when we got to the beach we found much more(The Sanderling were feeding on the Horseshoe crab eggs). I want to thank Frank! He is a good friend and repeat customer for many years. Here are just a few from the day

Until The Skimmers begin nesting in mid-to-late May, the north end of Hunting Island is a favored dwelling place. Watching these birds skim the surface, lower bill submerged, and swiftly snap shut upon catching small fish or shrimp is always fun to witness. f8 @ 1/1000sec/ 500mm f/4

You don't see this every day. Check out this awesome photo of a bobcat carrying off a juvenile gator at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. 🐊🐱

Last Wednesday on a peaceful calm morning with comfortable temps myself, John Poer& friend Doug Currie made a photo adventure out of circumnavigating Hunting island. At sunrise we began north up the oceanfront to the Johnson Creek Inlet
