Today, I just want to share something personal behind the name Harper Bee.
Both of my businesses—Harper Bee Photography and Harper Bee Handmade—were born out of a need to keep going, to keep creating, to keep my heart busy while healing from something that will never truly be “healed.”
I named them after my daughter, Harper, who was born still in May 2020.
The “Bee” comes from her nursery—the one she never came home to. It was filled with bees and beehives, soft yellows and sweetness. And though she’s not here physically, she’s woven into every photo I take, every banner I paint, every little thing I pour my heart into.
Grief is strange—it comes in waves. And sometimes, it still knocks the wind out of me. But having something to focus on, something to build in her honor, keeps me grounded. It keeps my eyes lifted.
Most days, when I’m painting or editing or packing orders, I’m worshiping. I’m praising Jesus for the gifts He’s given me, and for the way He’s used Harper’s short life to draw me closer to Him.
If she did anything in her time here, she made me a stronger woman of faith.
So thank you—to my clients, my friends, and my family—for supporting these businesses. They mean more than you’ll ever know.
Happy 5th birthday, Jude 💕You are so loved. 🫶
