Working with limited staffing means every decision matters. Bobby’s class focuses on doing more with less, prioritizing tactics, putting the right people in the right places, and making smart, aggressive decisions when manpower isn’t exactly overflowing.

And Bobby is... well, Bobby.

Will he yell at you? Absolutely. Will you become the subject of an obscene joke? Highly probable. Will he drop his pants in front of hundreds of people because the lesson somehow requires seeing the tattoo on his upper thigh? Apparently, yes. 😂

But underneath the chaos is someone ridiculously passionate about the fire service. Bobby brings an energy that’s impossible to ignore because he genuinely loves what he does, and he wants the people he teaches to carry that same drive back to their own departments. He’s building culture for the next generation, just not with the traditional instruction manual. Loud, unpredictable, slightly unhinged... and incredibly effective.

Managing Elevator Emergencies with Jason Jones 🛗🔥

Jason and his team took firefighters beyond the elevator doors and into the mechanics of what actually happens when things stop moving. From elevator safety and understanding the inner workings of the system to gaining access and safely removing a trapped patient, this course packed a lot of technical knowledge into practical, hands on training.

Elevator rescues are one of those calls where knowing what not to touch can be just as important as knowing what to do. The crew did an awesome job breaking down the moving parts, hazards, and rescue techniques so firefighters could work smarter, safer, and with confidence.
Definitely gave me a whole new appreciation for what’s hiding behind those elevator doors. 🛗📸

Kyle brought hose and nozzle work back to the fundamentals, focusing on efficient stretches, nozzle control, pressure, and understanding what your stream is actually doing.
This was an awesome class to photograph because you could visually see the difference between the various PSI settings and understand why one may be more effective than another depending on the situation. It’s one thing to talk numbers, but it’s another to watch the water tell the story.
Great instruction, strong fundamentals, and some seriously cool frames to capture. 🔥📸

Traditions Training brought search back to what matters most, getting in, finding civilians quickly, and getting them out. Eric Budd and his crew put firefighters through some seriously cool search scenarios built around zero visibility, efficient movement, proper TIC use, and staying oriented when everything around you is working against you. Because the fireground doesn’t get quiet just because you need to think.

Imagine crawling through zero visibility searching for a victim while dispatch suddenly comes over the radio: “Engine 2, reports of a child trapped in a rear bedroom, second floor.” You’re processing that information, reading your TIC, maintaining your search, and then, because apparently things weren’t chaotic enough, bagpipes start blasting. 😂

The point was bigger than the distraction. Control the noise, trust your training, stay focused on the mission, and get the job done.

This one was especially cool for me because I got to step away from documenting everything from the outside and actually get inside the scenario. Being in the smoke, feeling the confusion and capturing those moments from within the search gave me a completely different perspective.

Eric and the Traditions crew did an awesome job creating training that felt unpredictable, demanding, and real. There’s a lot happening on a fireground. Your ability to think through the chaos matters just as much as your ability to move through it. 🔥📸

There’s a big difference between knowing the job on paper and understanding how to make it work when conditions are working against you. Street Smart Truck Ops is built around exactly that, practical, aggressive truck company operations and the ability to think, adapt, and execute when it matters.
Mike Ciampo and his crew brought an incredible amount of knowledge to the fireground this weekend. From forcible entry and ground ladders to victim search, ventilation, and coordinated truck operations, every evolution had a purpose behind it.

They didn’t just teach firefighters what to do. They broke down the why, showed different ways to accomplish the same objective, and gave everyone an opportunity to put those skills to work.

There were years upon years of lessons, successes, mistakes, and hard earned fireground knowledge packed into one weekend. That kind of information is invaluable because these firefighters now get to take it back to their own departments, train on it, adapt it, and pass it along.
Pretty cool to watch that much experience get poured into the next generation of firefighters, and even cooler to have a front row seat documenting it. 📸🔥

Mayday Mindset brought firefighters into the moments where training matters most, when conditions deteriorate, visibility disappears, and survival depends on staying composed.
Robert Ramirez put crews through challenging firefighter survival and self rescue scenarios, teaching them how to get low, control their body position, and maneuver through tight, unforgiving spaces. But the class went beyond physical technique. It reinforced the mindset needed when things go wrong: stop, pause, trust your training, maintain awareness of your surroundings, and find your triangle.

In a Mayday, panic burns valuable time and energy. Mayday Mindset teaches firefighters to replace that panic with deliberate movement, problem-solving, and confidence in the skills they've built.

Robert & his crew did an incredible job pushing these firefighters through tough situations while giving them the tools to slow their minds down when everything around them says to speed up. Train the body. Control the mind. Find a way out.

Shoutout #3: Citizens First Fire Training Maximizing Your Extrication 🚒 AMKUS Rescue Systems

Citizens First Fire Training came out ready to work, bringing their Maximizing Your Extrication class straight to the hands-on side of the fireground.

This class focused on getting the most out of your extrication operations, from understanding vehicle construction and stabilization to tool placement, effective cutting and spreading techniques. The emphasis wasn’t just on operating the tools, but understanding why, where, and when to use them to create a safer and more efficient rescue.

The instructors brought an impressive depth of knowledge. Most was their commitment to keeping crews on the tools. They wanted firefighters cutting, spreading, problem-solving, asking questions, and working through real extrication challenges rather than simply watching someone else do it.

Huge thank you to Citizens First Fire Training for bringing the knowledge, the tools, and plenty of metal to move. 🔥🛠️

Street Smart Ground Ladders 🔥🪜

Sunday brought a different kind of energy when Mike Torres from Build Your Culture stepped in for Street Smart Ground Ladders.

The class focused on making ground ladder operations faster, smarter, and more intentional. From choosing the right ladder and placement to efficient carries, throws, and deployment, the emphasis was on being confident with the fundamentals when seconds actually matter.

Mike brought an incredible amount of energy and drive to the class. The kind that kept people engaged, moving, and wanting to get better.

But what stood out just as much was the message behind Build Your Culture. Culture isn't something written on a station wall or talked about when morale is low. It's built through the standards you hold, the effort you bring, and what you're willing to expect from yourself and the people beside you. Every training, every call, and every interaction adds something to it.

Mike made one thing pretty clear: energy is contagious, but so are standards. Build both intentionally.

Jimmy Ellis Training Weekend was one for the books.
Five days of lectures, hands on training, and putting those lessons into practice gave me a front row seat to just how much work goes into this weekend. What stood out most wasn't simply the training itself, but the amount of knowledge, preparation, and intention behind it. The fire service doesn't improve by accident. People dedicate their time to teaching, learning, challenging old habits, and sharpening the craft.

I documented a lot over the last five days, so there’s plenty more coming. 📸🔥

First up: Street-Smart Tactics, LLC
Captain Arthur Ashley and his crew focused on aggressive truck and engine company operations, breaking down the fundamentals of acting quickly, reading the problem in front of you, and finding solutions when the textbook answer isn't necessarily the practical one. There’s a difference between knowing the job and being able to teach it well. This crew brought both. I genuinely appreciated the time, skill, and experience they poured into everyone on the training ground.
