One of my oldest clients Leslie | Local Business Marketing Coach for Service Providers, not by her age of course, but since we started working together.

Here’s a mix of some fun shots we’ve done at some different spots around town including her home office - going back to 2017.

She was a client first and then I became her client when I joined her Localpreneur Academy. It’s mostly geared towards women owned small businesses but I was welcomed in. I took one Marketing 101 class in college and that was the extent of my formal business training going into starting my own business in 2021 so I turned to Leslie for some help.

Putting the red in Red Stick.
Mostly recent shots with a few oldies added at the end.

This is the start of a little color themed series.

Trail lights. New and old.

I went to a family funeral this past weekend and after some other notable deaths in the community at large, my thoughts came to these images, which I think possess a certain ephemeral nature.

RIP a true legend Skip Bertman.

His statue dedication ceremony outside LSU Baseball Alex Box Stadium shot for the The Baton Rouge Advocate in fall 2019.

There’s a photo of him with 8 year old me somewhere in my old bedroom at Skip Bertman baseball camp. I’ve been a big LSU baseball fan since.

These photos shot at Baton Rouge Pinspiration for 225 Magazine won first place magazine feature in the annual regional Green Eyeshade Awards back in 2022.
I had come up with a similar concept in a shoot for DIG Baton Rouge back in 2017 with then LSU student artist and now professional artist Morgan Gray.

I think it’s good to recycle old ideas using new techniques considering you’re also more capable of executing them now.

This was the cover shot of the first annual ‘Day in the Arts’ project in InRegister Magazine in 2019 taken at LSU Museum of Art. I staged it using my assistant Shaun Blue that day.
You can see the printed cover hanging on my wall in slide 2.

I participated in 4 or 5 years they did it (bring it back Riley Bienvenu Bourgeois) and would usually volunteer to do any of the painting/museum options.

That day was also special since I also photographed my wife’s Kindergarten class at BRCVPA on how they integrate the arts into their lesson plans.

In the summer of 2021 shortly after I found out I was going to have a little girl soon Modest Mouse released an album with a track called “Lace Your Shoes.”

If you know Modest Mouse this wasn’t a typical song for them and as a then soon to be 40 year old with his share of ups and downs and life experience it was a song that really resonated with me. Still does.

Today Olivia started with seems like her official first day of school - in Pre-K 4. I’ve thought about making this post for 5 years now. And all the time in between of trying to show her some beauty in the world.

Here are some of the lyrics to read at your leisure:
I can’t wait to see you lace your shoes
Things were hazy, but that all stopped with you
We passed by headstones on a walk
I overthink something, and then I forget I should talk
I can’t wait to see you go to school
I hate that this will happen, but I know that it’ll happen
Someone’s gonna be cruel…

We counted dark spots on the moon
The stars were barely visible
I know that I should let you count them far from this city roof

Cause the sunshine pours out of your mouth and eyes
‘Cause the sunshine spills out your mouth and eyes
And out onto the floor
And I can’t see nothing anymore
No, I can’t see nothing anymore
No, I can’t see anything no more
It fills the skies all the way from the floor

I spend too much time out on the deck
Staring out at nothing while nothing at all
Blankly stares right back
And I hope there’s still something left for you
I can’t wait to see which paths you choose
So that you can see animals far away from the stupid city zoo…

August 7th, 2018. This was perhaps the most spectacular sunset I’ve seen in Baton Rouge - definitely top 3.

I almost went home since it looked like it was about to storm but I stuck around because the lighting looked cool (slide 3). Then I notice the rainbow (slide 4). The first two slides came about 30 minutes apart. I learned that day that dark clouds can lead to pretty sunsets.
