Folks in the Greater Baton Rouge area: I hope you’ll make plans to check out the Animals in Art exhibition at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Library running from October 10 - November 6. In fact, I’d be delighted if you joined me at the opening reception. And for me, there’s something personally just kinda cool about the fact that I’ll have a piece on display at the campus where my big sister earned her Veterinary Medicine degree, and the opening reception is on her birthday - October 10. Feels like a special connection. Anyway…

I have loved photographing dragonflies since my earliest days of iPhone photography. Along with tree frogs, both are beautiful interesting creatures that will generally allow you to get close enough to them to capture great shots with a smartphone camera. (Pro Tip: Dragonflies have a tendency to circle back to the same “roost.” So, if you approach one and spook it from its spot, just be still and patient - there’s a good chance it will boomerang back in a minute.)

I also love when I discover previously unnoticed photo gems in the piles of files. Between the current oppressive South Louisiana heat, and being sick this week, I haven’t been out with my camera - but sitting and sorting and culling and post-processing images from previous excursions. And I have just discovered a “new” favorite dragonfly pic from about a year ago. YAY!!!
