Why do we ask outside photographers to check in with us as horse shows? It is for 1 specific reason: SAFETY!
SAFETY of our riders
SAFETY of our spectators
SAFETY of our photographers
Our photographers all wear name tags with our logo. All of our photographers are Safe sport trained and background checked. We pay for that because we want to know who is working for us because they are taking pictures and are around minors.
Private client photographers are also asked to check in with us for many of the same reasons.
We ask that if you are taking pictures of your kid to please check in as well. Not because we want to stop you from taking pictures but to make sure that you are not here for nefarious reasons.
Yesterday at GSEC, a man was taking pictures of riders, candids etc. he would come up to my photographers and talk to them. I never saw him but was made aware of him through my photogs getting creeped out.
HE WAS IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM AFFILIATED WITH JERRY MOHME PHOTOGRAPHY!!!
Parents were creeped out with him wandering around taking pictures. It was reported to the show office by parents and I also talked to the show office to make it clear that the guy had no business being here.
He was not barn affiliated, not related kids in the ring just there to take pictures. He showed up again today and immediately honed in on the youngest kids ring and my photographer. Fortunately, one of the officials I spoke with saw him and had him removed. (Go, Hailey!)
It is possible that all his intentions were innocent, but the fact he was avoiding show officials makes me suspicious. Several parents initially thought he was with us until I let them know that all of our team wears a name tag plainly visible.
Horse shows are a target rich environment for someone wanting to harm children. Many kids are running around unattended. Please remember that next time we ask you for information on why you are taking pictures at a show. Or better yet, please just check in with us.
