Every person deserves to be seen.

As Pride Month begins, I’ve been thinking less about labels and more about people.

At the end of the day, every human being wants many of the same things: to be loved, to feel safe, to belong, to celebrate life’s milestones with the people who matter most.

It has always been difficult for me to understand why anyone should be treated differently because of who they love, how they identify, their background, their beliefs, or any part of what makes them uniquely themselves.

Over nearly three decades of photographing weddings, I have witnessed one truth again and again:

Love looks remarkably similar.

The laughter.
The nerves before a ceremony.
The tears from parents and friends.
The promises made in front of the people who matter most.

Those moments transcend categories.

I am honored every time a couple trusts me to document their story, including the many LGBTQ+ couples whose celebrations I have had the privilege of photographing.

This month, and every month, I believe every person deserves dignity, respect, opportunity, and the freedom to live authentically and be loved fully.

That should never be controversial.

What you’re investing in is far more than the wedding day itself.

By the time your wedding day begins, so much of the work has already happened.

Timeline preparation. Location scouting. Light evaluation. Family dynamics. Weather backup plans. Understanding personalities. Coordinating with planners and creative teams. Preparing for every possible shift before it happens.

And then there’s the wedding day itself. The ability to stay calm under pressure, work quickly without creating stress, recognize moments before they happen, and navigate luxury environments with professionalism and ease.

Afterward comes the editing, curating, refining, backing up, organizing, and delivering thousands of images with care and consistency.

When couples invest in an experienced photographer, they are not simply investing in photographs.

They are investing in preparation, instinct, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, consistency, and the ability to make an incredibly important day feel effortless.

That level of experience is built over years, not overnight.

Most people don’t need to know how to pose.

One of the biggest misconceptions about wedding photography is that couples need to know how to pose naturally in front of a camera.

They don’t.

What most people actually need is someone who knows how to guide them calmly and intuitively.

My approach has never been about forcing moments or over-directing every movement. It’s about creating enough comfort, trust, and direction that people can relax into themselves naturally.

That balance matters.

Because the best photographs don’t happen when people are trying too hard. They happen when people feel present, connected, and fully at ease.

And honestly, creating that environment is just as important as taking the photograph itself.

What 25 Years of Photographing Weddings in New York Has Taught Me

New York weddings have a rhythm entirely their own.

The timelines move quickly.
The lighting changes constantly.
Traffic becomes part of the conversation.
The weather can shift in minutes.
Historic venues each have their own cadence, restrictions, and flow.

And yet somehow, when a day is thoughtfully planned and approached with calmness, everything begins to feel effortless.

Over the years, photographing weddings throughout New York City, from intimate celebrations to large black-tie evenings at venues like the Rainbow Room, The Plaza Hotel, and The Pierre, I’ve learned that preparation matters just as much as creativity.

A luxury wedding experience is not only about beautiful design.
It’s about ease.
Trust.
Adaptability.
And creating enough space for people to actually feel present inside one of the most important days of their lives.

Some of the calmest wedding days I’ve photographed were not the least complicated. They were simply supported by experienced teams who understood how to navigate the day thoughtfully together.

That collaboration is one of my favorite parts of this industry.

Beautiful photos are expected. Experience is what changes the wedding day.

After photographing over 1500 weddings, I’ve learned that photography is rarely just about photography.

It’s about reading a room before something unfolds.
Knowing when to step in and when to disappear.
Understanding emotional timing.
Navigating pressure calmly.
Adapting quickly when the weather, timelines, transportation, or energy shift unexpectedly.

Especially in New York City, wedding days move quickly and often carry layers of complexity behind the scenes that most people never see.

Anyone can purchase a camera.
Experience is what teaches anticipation, emotional awareness, problem-solving, and consistency under pressure.

And honestly, that calmness changes the entire atmosphere around a couple.

Beautiful images absolutely matter to me. Deeply.
But so does creating an experience where people feel taken care of, understood, and fully present inside their day.

That balance has become one of the most meaningful parts of this work for me over the years.

The photos that matter most are rarely the obvious ones.

The images couples return to most often are not always the big, expected moments.

They’re usually the quieter ones.

The way your mother looked at you before the ceremony. Your friends are laughing at dinner. Someone is reaching for your hand without thinking.

Beautiful design absolutely matters. I love thoughtful details and incredible environments as much as anyone.

But over time, it’s the people, the emotion, and the atmosphere of the day that hold the most value.

That’s always what I’m watching for.

The moments in between everything else.

Lighting is not equipment. It’s awareness.

There’s a moment in photography where lighting stops being something you set up…
and becomes something you see.

One of the biggest differences between newer photographers and experienced ones is this:

Not just where the light is, but how it falls on the face.

Most of the time, you want your light to land cleanly across the “mask” of the face, the eyes, and the mouth. That’s where expression lives. That’s where connection happens.

When the light misses that completely, the image can feel off, even if you can’t immediately explain why.

But here’s the nuance:

The goal isn’t perfection.
Its intention.

There are absolutely moments where breaking that rule creates something incredible. Backlight. Silhouettes. Shadow-driven portraits. I use those often.

The difference is knowing when it’s a choice, and when it’s happening by accident.

That awareness only comes from time, observation, and a lot of real-world experience.

And on a wedding day, where everything is moving quickly, that instinct matters more than anything.

Because the light won’t wait. And neither will the moment.

If you’re planning your day, this is one of those details you may never think about, but you’ll feel it in every image.

Most couples come into this experience thinking they need to know how to pose or what to do in front of the camera.

My role is to guide, observe, and create an environment where you can simply be yourselves without overthinking every moment.

From scouting the location to shaping the flow of the session, I take on the details so my clients don’t have to. They just show up… and enjoy it.

A well-built timeline does more than keep things on schedule.

It creates space, space to breathe, space to be present, and space for moments to unfold naturally.

While I take timelines very seriously, I also understand that wedding days are dynamic. They include quick pivots, unexpected moments, and the need to pause and take it all in.

The most beautiful celebrations aren’t rigid; they’re thoughtfully structured with room for real life to happen.

That balance is what allows a day to feel both seamless and meaningful.
