Seaside Dragonlet

Erythrodiplax berenice, commonly known as the seaside dragonlet, is a species of dragonfly in the family Libellulidae. It is found mainly at coastal marshes, mangrove swamps, and alkaline lakes of eastern North America.[2][3] It is unique among dragonflies of the western hemisphere in that it can breed in seawater.[4]

I recently capture 3 more hours of data using my other Sv220 Sii Oiii filter and I merged my 2 hours of the Ha Oiii to get a wider range of color to my image. This is only 5 hours of total integration time. I had trouble merging them as the 2nd time wasn’t perfectly lined up and I had to crop. My plan was to try out the SHO palette but since they didn’t line up this is what I decided to do. So this is just a learning experience but I had fun going after these targets. It still blows my mind that I can capture this in New Jersey.

M16 (Eagle Nebula) and M17 (Omega Nebula) are two massive, glowing star-forming clouds located in the Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way. Both nebulae are giant clouds of dust and hydrogen gas where new, hot stars are born. Ultraviolet (UV) light from these baby stars hits the gas cloud. This process causes the gas to glow, much like a neon sign.
The Eagle Nebula (M16) sits in the constellation Serpens. It is famous for the “Pillars of Creation”, which are tall, finger-like clouds of gas where stars are actively forming. The Omega Nebula (M17) (also called the Swan or Horseshoe Nebula) sits in the constellation Sagittarius. It glows very brightly and is shaped like a swan’s neck or a Greek letter Ω (omega).

This is just 106 minutes of integration time. I’m going for 4-5 hours of using the Svbony Sv220 Ha Oiii 7nm filter and another 4-5 hours using Svbony Sv220 Si Oiii when I’m done. That is my goal in the next month!🤞✨

On my trip to Cozumel, I found some interesting coral seascape locations to capture the sunriseHere I captured a splash from a wave crashing into the coral reefs I was standing on. This coral is very dangerous as it’s as sharp as glass. My shoes got tore up from wandering around trying to get a good angle. I did a 2nd shot to capture the sun waiting as touched a cloud at f/16 to get a starburst.☀️💦

A week ago, I was out at the beach at night capturing our galaxy 🌌. After 2 hours of shooting, the Milky Way was rising into the heavily light polluted coast. At the same time, the moon (72% waning gibbous) was starting to rise at 12:24am. My plan was to capture Milky Way and then capture a wide angle pathway with the moon rising.
This was a 72% moon so there was a ton of light to expose the the foreground. Holy sunrise, I mean moonrise! 🌔 You can see diffraction spikes from the moonlight cutting through the trees. 💥

I captured a few sunrise pics on my last day in Cozumel. To get to the east side of the island, I had to rent a car. For some reason, the roads are closed before sunrise and after sunset. This is the other reason I couldn’t capture my nightsky pics. Looking on Google Maps, I found some interesting coral seascape locations to capture the sunrise. Here I captured a splash from a wave crashing into the coral reefs I was standing on. This coral is very dangerous as it’s as sharp as glass. My shoes got tore up from wandering around trying to get a good angle. I did a 2nd shot to capture the sun waiting as touched a cloud at f/16 to get a starburst.☀️💦

I was itching to try out my new narrowband filter and on my last trip to Cozumel, I wasn’t allowed to stay on the beach after sunset. 🐊 live near the lagoons and sometimes they go out looking for food. I decided to take it safe. I would’ve had to wait 6 hours for Milky Way rise and didn’t want to chance it. So… last night It was clear and I drove down to Barnegat Light beach to grab some nightsky data and dip my toes into narrowband imaging. It is quite difficult to do and the filter is so strong that you can’t see anything.
Expose and cross your fingers!🤞
To use the 2” filters on Nikon, you need a manual adapter for F-mount that doesn’t allow aperture control. 😬
So you adjust aperture using the FTZ adapter and pull off lens to lock in aperture.
Here is one of many pathways that lead you to this beautiful beach. PS I was looking my bioluminescence and Aurora but nothing showed up.
Also, thanks to the policeman that let me continue to my nightsky destination. My head light was out!
Zeta Ophiuchi Nebula, Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex, Lagoon Nebula,Trifid Nebula, Omega Nebula, Eagle Nebula etc can be seen here.
