Gimme 20 minutes, a beach, and a dog named River...
Yes, yes, yes, I know the sky was blue with those wispy & light clouds. The sand was a beautiful golden brown, speckled with tiny shells and the water was a glistening & reflective mix of the two. And the dog??? The prettiest creamy golden fur with deep red ears.
But I LOVE BLACK AND WHITE. There I said it.
When our brains do not have to compute the beauty of color, they can fully organize the composition, the tones, the curves, the muscle, the ripples, dimples, and crimpies.
Whiskers become delicate features, finally recognized.
Droplets of water can prove thirst from running.
A floating tail shows a moment of rest.
Not every photo can thrive as a black and white vision, but sometimes they can rock my world... and when I see it during a session, I know it.
Fun fact: In my first two years of college (starting at CMU), I shot all of my photography class's assignment images in black and white FILM! Digital cameras were just becoming more widely available to the public but were still pricey for a poor college student 🤣. I got to learn darkroom and processing and all the bells and whistles. What an experience and sadly, a lost art. My trusty Pentax K1000 and I sure had some good times.
Anyway, give some love to River
