Last week's "Race to the Save the Boundary Waters: Canoecopia Matching Campaign" was nothing short of a success. Thanks to a number of donors, we were able to raise over $260! These monies go a long way to support Save the Boundary Waters and their efforts to put a stop to the mining industry polluting the freshest and purest of waters, and impacting all life that depends on this significant resource.

We are just $20 shy of the $500 goal! Who will be the one to break the top of this campaign as we continue our way to Grandma's Marathon - Duluth, Inc. on June 22nd? Link is below.

"What a sight to behold. The aromas were thick and intoxicating. From the fresh baked goods, sweet crepes, and the sizzling meats cooking over the fire. The wonderful scent of hot glühwein being poured in each special, custom Frankfurt Christkindlmarkt glass. Music accompanying the dazzling carousel, with the young and young at heart smiling and laughing away with each loop. A gigantic Christmas tree with its star at the top welcome one and all to stop and bask in the sight. All of this, surrounded by such unique architecture, from stores, residents, cafes, old cathedrals. Between some of these structures were old alleyways whispering to me that there is more to explore down them.

For me, this is going to be an adventure of a lifetime."

The first part in the Germany adventure from this past December is live. Sure, it's March, but a tale about a journey is worth sharing any time of the year. Embark with me on the road to Frankfurt and the first day touring this historic city. Link to the blog is below.

An afternoon exploring the snow-covered trails at Te Wákąčąk/Spirit Lake/Devil's Lake State Park. This view of the geologic icon Balanced Rock with the sun peeking from along the edge brought forth warmth in a frigid January scene.

Less than a week removed from a four day wilderness trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Roughly four days composed of grand views, peace, a lively wild, and hearty company. Nature welcomed us as guests, allowing us to enjoy all that this largely untouched landscape has to offer. Each moment humbling, treasured with organic joy and happiness. Grateful for this experience that I will always look back on.

Wintry views at Parfrey's Glen State Natural Area.

Parfrey's Glen was the first designated State Natural Area for Wisconsin in 1952. It is one of most alluring settings in the south central area and of the Baraboo Hills region. The exposed rock features are a welcome attraction from the first time visitor to the curious professional geologist. This is also home to several rare plant species and other flora that are not common to this region. When visiting, be respectful to the landscape, features, plant and bug life.

One of this morning's outdoor adventures took us to the top of the south bluff and to experience the panoramic view of Te Wakącąk/Spirit Lake/Devil's Lake State Park. The recent accumulation of snow over the course of the last few days has provided a nice "powdered coating" to the talus fields and lake.

Last night’s dramatic snowfall left us with a divine, magical winter wonderland. This morning’s views at Devil’s Lake State Park were nothing short of breathtaking. This view from atop East Bluff looking to the southwest is just a small sample of how remarkable it is. Happy December!
