решила сделать отдельную страничку для своей усадьбы и её обитателей (бывших и теперешних)...прошу любить и жаловать!
This was our long time resident, Cody. Cody outlived several generations of Polish Muscovy ducks, his brothers and sisters, then some kids of cousins and cousins twice removed, than many other relatives....When Cody was just a little duckling, our duck tribe was hit with botulism epidemic ....Cody was the only one from the sick who survived (he was also the youngest), but he came out lame. So he became our proverbial "lame duck". The wisest. He was the only one I was able to catch for the duck shows, so he is on every kid picture decorated with the bunch of awards.....We don't eat our residents, but our wildlife does (foxes, badgers, koyotes, weasels, falcons). Not Cody!!!! He didn't think that "the grass is always greener on the other side" (damn the grass), so he was near the barn when so attractive "other side" was hunted by the foxes. He thought sleeping in the barn was better than staying on the water, so he was safe when the koyotes raided the pond...
Finally (with all the ducks eaten by the wildlife) it was just me and my old lame duck Cody. I be been carrying him on my hands every morning to swim to our pond, and by the evening he will slowly make it to the barn. But the birds can not be alone. On one of the show I posted a sign "looking for nice people to adopt Cody" and a nice couple in Belfast took his as a resident of their show duck community. I'm sure he is still enjoying his ocean view in Belfast staying some place safe. Love long, Cody!
Это Коди, наш долгожитель. Когд маленький был- все сильно болели, он один из заболевших выжил, но хромой. Стал очень мудрым и пережил всех. Каждую утиную выставку посетил, каждый ребёнок его с медалями сфоткал, позировать он умел, хромоту скрывал. Не то чтобы он самый красивый из моих уток был, но его одного поймать можно было можно, больше никто на выставку не хотел, разлетались.... Польские утки Маскови- это утки с вертикальным взлётом (не удержишь), единственный вид, способный ночевать на ветках деревьев. Ещё их называют "молчаливые утки"- они совсем не издают звуков, только клацают клювом, как будто ловят капельки дождя.
Мы своих не едим (как же их есть, если я их всех ещё яйцами помню), но всякие дикие звери (лисы, барсуки, койоты, ястребы, куницы) - запросто. А свобода - вещь такая- удрали от хозяйки- ну так смотрите в оба. В общем, всех свободолюбивых поели, он один, при миске, остался.. Старенький совсем стал лет 8 ему было, я его к пруду на руках носила, сам обратно приходил, на обратном пути отдыхал часто. Потом мы на выставку пошли и там я ему новых хозяев нашла, у которых свои выставочные утки.....Нельзя всё-таки утке в одиночестве оставаться. И живёт он теперь на океанском побережье в компании утят, опыт передаёт...
