Sheila Fuller Photography If you were born with the weakness to fall you were born with the strength to rise
- Rupi Kaur When a bird sings it lifts my soul.

I have always fancied myself a frustrated artist trapped in the body of someone who can neither paint nor draw. Until I found a way to express myself through my Canon.
I have had a love affair with our planet for as long as I can remember. A sunrise can make me cry, and a walk along the ocean or in mountains brings peace to my soul that I do not find elsewhere in this world. I have a constant co

nversation in my head. I chatter like a swallow, and I always have music playing. But when I step behind my Canon I enter a place that silences all the voices of this world. Eckhart Tolle says “All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.” While I don’t know that I am a true artist, I do know that behind the lens of my Canon I have without a doubt experienced inner stillness. It may be the only place I ever have. I like to believe my relationship with the planet is what signs my name to my work the moment I click the shutter. While many have become comfortable with the manipulations and ease of the digital world I prefer to shoot with intention - one click, one frame. Not layering, no stacking of images. For me that is where the grace lies. My camera is my paintbrush, my meditation, my escape. I think what lays before us is perfection without my manipulation. So I breathe, aim, and make my best attempt to capture that.

🏔️
In the 1800s Last Dollar Road provided the main access to Telluride. It was used as a supply route and by prospectors looking for fortune. The road passed through private land, and the owner charged a dollar to use it. The story goes that prospectors saved their last dollar so they could leave town if things didn’t go as planned.
Today it remains - a muddy, unpaved road winding through aspen groves, offering fantastic views of Wilson Peak (14,252 ft.), Lizard Head (13,114 ft.), and many others.
The views on Last Dollar Road may look familiar if you are a fan of old westerns. The area was featured in the filming of True Grit and The Hateful Eight.
It is an annual pilgrimage for .daddy.dave.1 and I as it is one of my favorite places to take the lens cap off my Canon. A Colorado treasure indeed.

I have been fortunate to witness some of the most beautiful places in our country. Yet South Park always calls me home. I may not have been born here, but I got here as quick as I could 💙

🏔️ There’s something special about coming home to Colorado.

We absolutely love this stunning South Park scene captured by Sheila Fuller. The colors, the light, and the sense of peace in this image perfectly reflect what makes this landscape so memorable. 📸

Thank you, Sheila, for tagging us and for sharing your incredible photography with our community. We’re grateful for the many beautiful images you’ve contributed over the years that help showcase the South Park National Heritage Area.

Traditions are things we reach towards to bring consistency and create continuity in our lives.
Our summers are filled with days and nights in the Colorado mountains. While each year brings new experiences and adventures one thing remains consistent. Our autumn adventures always bring us to the same campground for the last few days it is open each year.On this particular trip we had a storm moving in. The evening was shockingly calm. But in the morning we awoke to ice along the edges of the lake, and mountain lion prints just outside our tent.
I don’t know many things for certain but I know where I will be the end of September.

Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.
It means to be in the midst of those things
and still be calm in your heart

Wildlife Wednesday you say? Well, it doesn’t get much wilder than this! We currently have a badger that has taken up residence on the mountain. We have found at least two active dens, the most recent dug along our brand new septic line 😬
We’ve been using our wildlife cameras to monitor the situation and have placed several motion activated predator lights and motion activated floodlights. We have also scattered fox urine scent markers around the dens.
My boy Sonny is six different kinds of terrier mixed into the perfect dog. Aside from the concern about our newly dug septic, terriers and badgers are not a good combination 😰 We are hoping to convince this fella that there are more peaceful places to live than The Bluebird ranch 🙃
His face is so cute! Then you notice the claws and realize what he is actually saying is something to the effect “come closer and I will rip off your face and use it as a napkin!”
All helpful advice will be greatly appreciated. A professional that can relocate him under CPW guidelines would be even more appreciated ✌🏻
While these images are definitely one click one frame, I will not be adding them to my portfolio as they were taken with our trail cams 😁

You cannot explore the mountains of Colorado without standing in awe of those that came before. Men and women who survived Colorado High Country winters on nothing but their own wisdom and tenacity as they lived and loved in homes the size of most modern bedrooms.
They withstood the elements and persisted in the shadows of these glorious mountain peaks.
Everywhere you go in the Rockies are remnants of their lives. This one in particular sits just off Hwy 24 and I have never once past it without saying “there is my house”. Because it emanates strength, perseverance, and a love of this beautiful land.

Nature Photography is more than learning how to use a camera. It is learning how to follow light. It teaches patience, respect, and observation. It requires focus, both outward and inward.
I was shooting birds one afternoon when upriver I spotted an egret, and something splashing in a small pool. I extended my zoom as far as I could, then added my doubler and extended again.
This image was captured at the very edge of my focal range, a distance about the length of a football field. I watched this egret and river otter hunt together for almost an hour. The companionship and cooperation was one of the most beautiful things I’ve witnessed in in my life. This is my favorite click from those magical moments because the egret is swallowing, and the otter is giving undivided attention. It is as if they’ve have been having a wonderful conversation about all the things they have seen.
🦦
Enter the wild with care, my love,
and speak the things you see
Let new names take and root
and thrive and grow
And even as you travel far
from heather, crag and river
May you like the little fisher,
set the stream alight with glitter
May you enter now as otter
without falter into water
- The Lost Words Blessing

This image is very special to me, very personal.
When we were leaving Colorado for the Oregon, coast I felt I was saying goodbye to so much that I loved. The aspen trees, the brilliant Colorado skies, the mountains, and to someone I carry in my heart always.
On our last evening in Colorado as I took this shot Daniel Tashian was singing through my earbuds everything I felt in my heart…
“Gonna tie a ribbon
Of gold across the sky
So you can see it from your window
Right as the sun begins to rise
So you remember me
So that you do
So you remember me
The way that I remember you”
