found the last bit of sun.

This was shot a night. One little light outside on the deck. The trusty Nanlite FC500B with a fresnel.

soaked up the setting sun. I took some pictures.

If only the background was that uncluttered. I removed a lot of distracting elements such as telephone poles, power lines, cars, people, etc. It was more tedious than difficult but worth the effort.

I highly recommend removing distracting elements. The little things like that add up and makes a big difference in the final edit. And it's easier than ever now.

sat by a mirror. I took some pictures.

When shooting in a small space try using a mirror to create depth. But don't let you or the equipment get caught in the reflection!

In this set up I wanted to make it appear that the key light was the lamp to Kay's left. I gave the lamp a little help by placing a flash with a softbox and grid sliight above and in front of the lamp. You can see the setup in the reel I posted the other day.

One key element to pulling this off is to make sure the color temperature of the flash is the same as the lamp. One handy full CTO gel to the rescue. And definitely use a grid to control light spill.

This was shot at night. I would have liked the sun to have been coming through the window into the shower but it wasn't meant to be. The house was facing North so the sun never directly shines here.

Off camera flash to the rescue. One bare strobe outside and another bounced off the ceiling for fill.
