We first met Symone Gilmore and Jesus Rojas on the dance floor at the historic Fairfax Grange 570, and we were enthralled.

For these two, what started as a shared love of country music and dance has grown into Bakersfield Country Dance Co., where every Wednesday these two friends are helping preserve Bakersfield's Western roots, one two-step at a time.
Whether you've been dancing for years or think you have "two left feet," their message is simple: everyone is welcome.

We sat down with the duo to talk about community, Texas dance halls, dance etiquette, Bakersfield pride, and the heart behind the movement they're building right here in our Kern County.
