Rebuilding takes time. Trust has to be established. And communication cannot be dismissed. Once you put these factors together a win can happen. That's what Woodlawn started to achieve on Thursday in their match-up against Liberty.
The win didn't come easy. Liberty came with a "new year, different team" mentality bringing a new QB with plenty of arm and foot speed. Had to keep Woodlawn honest and constantly adjusting and anticipating on defense. The playmakers said this was their game on both sides of the ball which finished the game 13 to 0, Woodlawn. INVESTING IN THE NEXT UP!
There's something beyond special about watching kids run around happy. Add in getting to exercise, learn teamwork plus sportsmanship and you have the Danny Johnson (Washington Commanders) Youth Camp on Saturday, June 17th. Coaches kept kids rotating thru multiple stations, giving them instruction on how to fix the "little things" while showing them how to be better competitors. Fun, pizza and lots of hydration had by ALL. More to come so STAY TUNED!

COMPETITION MOVES THE BAR!
Last Sunday the Iron Sharpens Iron exhibition hosted by took center stage and left NO CRUMB putting on a show! The skilled positions came out so strong that the camp was broken into 2 sessions (which is what I have to do in my posts.)
The morning session featured middle schoolers to rising high school talent that left several athletes continuously keeping our jaws open catching high point air attacks or jumping out the gym breakups, disrupting what was thought to be a guaranteed mismatch. BRAVO TO THE BOYS AND COACHES for all of the work and development that went on on a day most are resting. Stay tuned for more!

ON THE SAVAGE SIDE!
When you hear the buzz about a team, it's one thing. But when you see it executed in person...
This was my first shot at covering St Augustine in their spring game match-up against Madison Prep Academy and their billing was well earned. They came with size, speed and knowledge of the game when executing plays. They moved in a way that if they had young players it wasn't hugely apparent. Am excited to see more and feature some of their future stars. STAY TUNED FOR MORE!

HEAT WAS ON FULL FLAME...
and not just on the thermostat on Saturday for the spring game match-up between MPA and St Augustine! So much so that I'm splitting the posts to do highlights.
MPA finished last season 8-4 overall and 5-0 in district with a mix of experience athletes and up and coming players. With graduating several key position players, Saturday became a showcase for few to spread their wings, and they did just that. Offense worked to balance a steady air strike with a strong ground attack. Defense pushed pressure to disrupt quarterback play and manage the run game. It was a show for SURE! MPA fell short by 1 TD in the last 30 seconds but made their statement. More to come on individual players later so stay tuned!

YOUNG TEAM VS YOUNG TEAM.
Spring has sprung and the first test of those in-season football skills is in full rotation. Got to check out Woodlawn vs Hammond on Thursday night and a few young ones said it was THEIR TIME.
A few boys got a run at multiple positions and they made PLAYS when called upon. From two major interception by ._.cayy and to an air raid connection between and ._.cayy . said he wasn't gonna be outdone and ran the field to pull out a 2 play TD. and .young3k was ringing bells on defense and .deuce kept the sticks moving on offense. Hammond put up a well ordered pick 6 at the end but was enough to overcome the 3 score deficit already in place. WHEWW! One of the best parts was seeing several of the soon to be graduating seniors on the sideline supporting their younger brothers. Once family always family. There was DEFINITELY more going on than I can do in one post so stay tuned!

ONE SMOKE...TWO SMOKE...THREE SMOKE...SCORE!
Statements were MADE this past weekend at the KING OF DA BOOT Tourney hosted by . 34 organizations brought 72 teams across 5 divisions to grace 6 fields during Southern's spring game fest and results produced 169 total games played in summertime humidity. WHEWW!
Athletes showed up with physical games to compete for their squads honor to sit ontop of that hill until next year. Huge congratulations goes out to the division winners that secured that trophy:

SHAKEBACK... SHAKEBACK
A loss can either define you or elevate you. Woodlawn chose the latter in it's district play against Liberty Magnet on Friday. Liberty started to set the tone early with a huge return on the opening drive. Then Woodlawn woke up and took control of the game for it's duration, finishing 38-7.
On the high note, .jv said THIS was his statement game, hauling in 3 TDs while both and held mini board meetings in the end zones themselves. The defense said they wouldn't be outdone with a few key turnovers, one nice pop-up from .jay._ . Next up is Catholic for Woodlawn so stay tuned!

A MISMATCH THAT COULDN'T BE SAVED.
When going to a game you hope to it being so competitive that even if you're a neutral party you'll find yourself cheering. Southern Lab vs Thrive Academy just wasn't that game. While Thrive had a few individual bright spots Southern Lab came with a completely balanced offense and an aggressive defense that just dominated. The result, a 63 to 0 shutout. Southern Lab goes into this week 4-3 overall and 2-0 in district play.
