My wife and I, of 28 years, personally live within what would be the future lake based on recent maps that I’ve seen. We’ve lived here in the Sulfur River forest at the far south end of Avery in the Shawnee Creek Ranch Subdivision.

Over the past 3 years, we’ve taken the time to clear the undergrowth (by hand, no mulchers) and made our 65 acres so much healthier than it was when we arrived. As a result we have daily visibility into the wildlife, and natural environment that would be decimated and/or relocated by a senseless lake for the DFW population. Here, we’ve done so much to protect nature, and not cause it harm. Being transplants ourselves from the Dallas area, the idea of losing this magical land is simply alarming. We have taken the initiative to learn more about utilizing resources that the forest offers, from foraging to responsible hunting.

In a time when forests like ours are being depleted and destroyed, why does the state of Texas want to cause harm to what is truly an unrecognized state treasure? Why can’t DFW and the state of TX adopt solutions like we have to better not only our own lives, but those of our neighbors. This includes those that are not on 2 legs. This even includes the history that exists within these woods.

We have a responsibility to protect the lives that cannot speak for themselves! I proudly say “No to Marvin Nichols”!
