Catskill berry bushes in the fall are just 😘

The Catskills and Adirondacks fall colors are both gorgeous but also very different in a few ways, but mostly in timing!

While the Adirondacks have peak foliage in late Sept/early October, the Catskills colors change a bit later towards mid/end of October, depending on where you are and the elevation.

One of my favorite things about Minnewaska area in the fall is how strikingly red the native blueberry bushes get! They are truly my favorite and provide such gorgeous color to your photos ❀️

Whether you dream of a full day trek around Sam's Point and looping through the ice caves and being all alone on some of the most beautiful Shawangunk ridges or in the main area, hiking by the lake and having a picnic, we are still booking 1-2 more elopements here for mid and end of October.

As a reminder for anyone looking to elope at Minnewaska, elopements/micro weddings are only permitted mid week, require a permit, and are limited to 15 people (including your photographer/ hiking guide).

We look forward to working with you!

Thoughts on over 6 years in business + some early work:

I've been thinking about how grateful I am to be not only an adventure elopement photographer, but also a licensed hiking guide, often introducing couples to their wedding day mountain for the first time on their wedding day. When I decided to become a licensed hiking guide, it only made sense because I love helping couples have a safe and secure time in the mountains on their wedding day! After all, while fun is great, safety is also pretty sexy!

I was going to present pictures from guiding elopements from all the time I've been doing it, but I only made it from 2020 through the start of the 2023 season, so in a way this post is also a throwback and celebration of my past work. I'm so proud to have built this business and have loved working with every single on of my couples.

It's an interesting thing being an elopement photographer who is also a hiking guide, because it means that we work so much closer together during the planning process than a typical wedding or elopement photographer. Because of all the time we spend chatting about your hiking preferences, time I spend curating a list of hikes that you will love pre-hiking and updating you on the conditions post-winter snow melt, talking through health concerns, conditions, weather, plan A B and Cs, creating custom gear lists, and finally creating your adventure timeline... Well, it's a lot and we get to know each other so well. When we meet up finally on your wedding day, all that fun planning and preparing finally comes to fruition and we head into the mountains.

I love my job. I love creating safe and lovely (and usually a bit sweaty) experiences for my couples. And here's a throwback to photographing the "adventure parts" from some of those earlier adventures 2020-early 2023. While my editing style has changed, the experience I provide hasn't.

Looking forward to posting more of my earlier work, because it's honestly so lovely to look back on all these beautiful days in the mountains πŸ’›

In case you are missing the snow, now is the perfect time to start planning your winter ski elopement in The Adirondacks!

In my opinion, March is the best month for a ski elopement in Upstate NY because the days are longer, temps are (a bit) warmer, and you've got an excellent base of snow πŸ˜‰

I've been thinking about this lovely elopement quite a bit recently. This day was just so lovely. Everything from getting ready at an Airbnb, driving to the mountain in between rain showers, and getting the craziest most gorgeous light on the summit....and honestly, throughout the day the light just kept changing which was fun. One moment it was SO DARK from the storm clouds. The next moment, golden, pinky sunlight.

You never know what the mountains will bring, which is honestly one of the best things about an outdoor elopement. Sometimes the original plans go off without a hitch. Sometimes a safer "plan B" hike is needed. And sometimes, like here, you adjust the day or your itinerary timeline to work around the weather. And yes, I was watching that radar like crazy πŸ˜… I was so happy when everything worked out perfectly. And rainbows don't happen without a little rain 🌈

At 3'500 feet deep in the Adirondack mountains, you exchange vows with only your dog as your witness during your elopement.

What a dream.

Anyways, do y'all prefer color or black and white? I'm partial to black and white myself 🀍

I'm currently booking for Austria August 1-8! So if you've been dreaming of eloping or renewing your vows in Tirol at a mountain hut or alpine lake, reach out to book your date.

I'm based in Seefeld in Tirol (google it, it's so quaint!), I can introduce you to some of the most gorgeous spots in the surrounding area while showering you with nerdy facts.

Reach out today to book!

Happy one year + 9 days anniversary to my friends C&G. Who knew that after documenting your child's birth in 2024, I'd somehow noozle in and force you to become my friends? (Me, I did. After that first meeting I was like "oh gosh, these folks are so awesome and I hope they like me too!")

Anyways, I'm horribly delayed in your anniversary post. That said, honestly, any day is a good day to celebrate these two incredibly generous, beautiful, and fun humans.

Wedding days can be simple and still so beautiful. So yes, have your wedding at the q***r-owned restaurant you would get take out from when you first started dating. Invite your friends & family that you want there. Share a (really) good meal. And read your vows surrounded by your family and all the restaurant staff, most of us who had tears in our eyes until G lost their place while reading their vows, at which point we all laughed. And then drive back to your home, tuck in your children, and enjoy the quiet moments of knowing that this is your person who will be with you and hold your hand during the easy moments and the hard.

I love you both. Being invited to document these many moments in your lives has been such an honor.

Planning your elopement at Minnewaska? Please be aware of this because I'm getting quite a few inquiries for weekends and it has me concerned 🫣

That said, Minnewaska is gorgeous and there are so many lovely spots to get married at both in the main park and the Sam's Point area.

Reach out to book your (midweek) Minnewaska elopement or small wedding in the Catskills!

Your "wedding aisle" can be whatever you make it out to be 🀍

Gosh, I just love Adirondack mountain elopements! Why? The area is just so gorgeous, but it also makes you work hard for views like these. Making the journey up the mountain a perfect metaphor for marriage. Anything good is worth putting in some sweat for.

Planning your own Adirondack elopement with a dose of hiking to exchange vows?

Things to know:

The different areas of the park each offer different magic. Choosing between Lake Placid, Lake George, Tupper Lake, Old Forge and more will depend so highly on the experience you want to have! Yes, the views (craggy peaks, water, colorful trees, pine trees, etc), but also whether you want access to fancy dinner options or if you prefer going to the local farmers market and cooking at home.

For the best time of year to elope in the Adirondacks, it also depends on the experience you want to have! That said, the bugs and black glues are crazy end of May through end of July. Last year I got a bite near my eye and it looked like I had a black eye for a solid week and a half!

July, August, September, and early October are the best months for an outdoor elopement in the ADKs. It's worth mentioning however, that the past few years we've had terrible heat waves in July, meaning having a sunrise hiking elopement is probably best with the evening being more chill, perhaps with a dip in the lake. No need to get heatstroke on your wedding day! And of course it has started snowing in September, but usually nothing a jacket won't fix. And though September temps can get chilly starting mid-September, snow is still pretty rare. And those September and October colors are delicious πŸ˜‰

There are so many options for you to pursue when planning your own Adirondack elopement. This was just my little brain dump as I think about this summer.

What kind of questions do you have about eloping the Adirondacks?
