Proposals are some of my favorite things to photograph 🥰 I love all the excitement and planning that goes into making sure everything is just right for your partner.
Having shot a number of these now, here are some tips:
1) Discuss with your partner what their preferences are for the proposal. Do they want a private location? Do they want friends and family present or would they prefer to meet them later?
2) You want to keep variables to a minimum. Remember - it’s a surprise so you can’t exactly explain things to the other person if you need to pivot last minute.
3) Try to aim for an evenly lit and visible area. You want to ensure that your photographer can easily see you and there are no obstructions or funky angles. Since you’ll be facing each other, make sure you stop in an evenly lit area so you’re both well-exposed. This one requires some scoping and planning beforehand.
4) Be present. It’s okay if things don’t go exactly according to plan. It’s okay if you get teary eyed or forget some parts of your speech. Feel your feelings and take it all in.
5) Proposers - pay attention to your posture. Do some lunges in front of the mirror. We want a strong spine, a 90 degree angle, and your shoulders back.
On my end, I’m always down to scope out locations and help plan things out. I’ll get you some sneak peeks within 24 hours (usually the same day) to share with friends and family and you can sit down together to select the rest of your photos. I’ll have a camera set up to record as well and any videos I take on my phone will be airdropped to you after the shoot.
