Okay, so apparently we’re going to NYC. 🗽😂 (it’s been almost 10 years since we’ve been 😢 we’ve missed y’all!)

One of our portraits of the Fabulous Rebecca Phillips is going to be featured on a **big screen in Times Square**, and obviously we need to go see that in person.

We’re planning to head up sometime before the holidays, and we’d love to stay a few extra days and photograph a couple of people while we’re there.

Could be couture. Could be personal portraits. Could be branding or some seriously good new headshots. We also know some incredible designers and boutique owners in the city, so if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to do something a little EXTRA… this could be it.

We haven’t booked our flights yet, which means:

Well. This was a hell of a thing to wake up to.

Beauty News NYC just published a feature on Obsidian + Blush, and somehow managed to put into words so much of what we’ve been building all these years.

Fashion. Fantasy. Fine art.

But more importantly—the belief that being photographed can be about far more than looking good in a picture.

It can be a return to yourself.

The article dives into our strange little creative universe, our fashion and editorial roots, why we still believe deeply in human-made imagery in the age of AI, and even the beautiful chaos that was Celestial Bodies.

And this line?

“They are not just photo shoots. They are returns.”

Yeah.

The longer we’ve been photographers, the more things we’ve learned to say no to. 😂

Some of these came from experience, some came from mistakes. Some came from watching things go sideways and deciding, “Yeah, we’re never doing THAT again.”

After 20+ years of photographing people, we’ve gotten pretty opinionated about what makes a great photograph, and what makes a great experience being photographed.

We love the little details, and obsessing over them 😜
We care about the boring stuff like contracts and backups.
We care about the human stuff, like who gets access to you while you’re vulnerable in front of a camera.

We care about creating work that actually serves a purpose, whether it’s going on your wall or representing your business.
And we care enough about the finished photograph to occasionally tell you no.

You don’t need 47 new profile pictures.
You need a library of images your business can actually use.
The photo introducing you on your About page has a different job than the one announcing your next speaking engagement. Your sales page needs something different from your press kit. And your launch campaign probably needs more than a tight crop of you smiling at the camera.
