A confident client photographs best. The cool thing is:: confidence isn’t a fixed state. It’s flex. And we as photographers have the super power (and the responsibility) of increasing our clients’ confidence levels.

There are many facets to building this confidence, starting with the pre-session preparation, rolling into a strong start with science-backed power poses, and honoring each person in front of our camera as a unique human with their own set of preferences.

When you master the skill of bestowing confidence on those you photograph, everyone wins.

20 minute “sitting” with Stephanie in Brooklyn to kick off this photoshoot marathon as we spent maybe 5 minutes actually taking photos and the rest of the time talking about how amazing Willem Dafoe is at untraditional posing. So I guess he inspired this set in some way.

Sharing something special today that we’ve been sitting on for a couple of years.

FRAGMENTED BY COMPARISON, shot in Italy in 2024 while teaching a workshop together and developed thoughtfully since then.

What started as a silly prop that I was posing around the property between classes turned into an organic collaboration between myself and Teri Hofford the second she held the mannequin up in front of her. Same light bulb, same moment. “We must act immediately.”

Up to a private room we went, placing the “standard-sized” mannequin in front of her, in whole at first…and then in parts…dismantling the beauty standard limb by limb (literally and symbolically.)

Becoming more familiar with the art world now, and having submitted this work to a few exhibitions, I’m instructed to say nothing. Let the work speak for itself. The viewer assigns their interpretation. Difficult for me as an avid context-adder, story teller, and - to be honest- as someone who doesn’t want this work to be misinterpreted as “oh how sad I am to not be mannequin-sized...”

…because if you know Teri and her message (I highly recommend you familiarize yourself…) you know that she is the body image queen; using herself as a tool to show others their biases and tackle their “squidgy feelings ” around body image. She’s certajnly challenged me both directly and indirectly over the years that I’ve known her, and her impact on the photography industry, for starters, has been unmistakeable.

There’ll be a plethora of this in the next year.

Each season, a new theme chooses me…and definitely not the other way around. It’s arrives both in a slow creep and as a freight train.

Women in nature. And AT EASE. Imagine? A calculated movement towards calm. peace. creativity. nature. nourishment. people.

My resistant feelings about the direction of the modern world have been a pattern in my life for as long as I can remember, but these days I admit that I’m throwing especially defiant shade towards technology, subscriptions, notification dings, AI, and all the “conveniences” that have pushed out simpler values.

The defiance itself isn’t healthy, so I do my best to lessen the frustration with aggressive counteractions (for reference, I’m writing this pen-to-paper from in front of my red light panel while sipping on anti-inflammatory tea, pumping aromatherapy into the room and listening to 528 hz cell regenerative sound frequencies... in the name of “balance”)…it can all be a bit…much, you know?

Here I am in 2026 clinging to the tangible, the analog, the DIY approach, the trees, handwritten notes, sunshine, herbs, and nurturing friendships rather than drowning in good intentions. To not go crazy(ier?), these things must spill over into my work with women. It’s important to me that I be a source of the soul-filling things for my clients and anyone who happens to accidentally happen upon me, blesstheirhearts.

So you’ll be seeing more of this from me for a while as I work to support my inner and peripheral circle of remarkable, but tired women who deserve to be truly at ease WHILST doing the same for myself.

There’ll be a Women in Nature digital detox sleepover event for my past clients to be photographed in a peaceful setting sprinkled with al fresco hot tub soaks, walks, and campfire chats. There will be a parallel retreat for photographers that will incorporate the creative reset from the PIVOT sessions. There will be more supportive offerings from me for people who can’t make it in person.

LENKA was born on this day and everyone needs to pause and reflect on that. 🖤

This industry has blessed me with some of the most incredible people, 𝕃𝕖𝕟𝕜𝕒 𝕁𝕠𝕟𝕖𝕤 at the top of that list. If you know her, you adore her. She’s got a childlike wonder that is rivaled only by her multi-life wisdom - my favorite combination. If you’re lucky enough to call her friend, she is the first to go to bat for you, honestly even when you’re deadass wrong and don’t deserve the support 😂.

So today we celebrate the heck out of this giving, gorgeous, talented, dancing, singing, tree hugging, soul who deserves to have the best day/year/life ever.

Buon compleanno amica mia. Ti voglio bene 🖤🖤🖤
