When Atelier Wong Photography was created in 1992 the tag line that encapsulated the core identity, personality and value proposition was "First Impressions that Last." We believed in providing exceptional architectural photography that would be useful immediately and for many years to come. So we were delighted to see the Austin Business Journal use a 2013 image created for Sixthriver, an award-winning, design based architecture firm in Austin, of the River View Apartments located on the South shore of Lady Bird Lake to illustrate a recent article about multi-family real estate.

"Looking at the current market dynamics, it's hard not to conclude that we'll emerge from this period of excess supply with a significant rebound," said Taylor Wilson, president of Wilson Capital on the state of Austin's multifamily market.

Business in the Front & Party in the Back is a humorous, old school phrase that represents a blend of seriousness and fun, but surprisingly, also describes the layout of most homes. Conforming to his standard is so ingrained that it simply isn’t questioned. To the outside world, people typically want the front of their single-family castle to express strength, announce their social status, affluence and look welcoming from a respectful distance. Unless you have a front lawn and kids or a sweet porch, virtually nobody spends any time out front anymore. The party is in the back. When the weather permits, this is where people can chill out with a cold beverage, keep an eye on the kids, play with the dog, and occasionally barbecue with friends and family.

To architects this observation is not particularly insightful or helpful and I am sure that they could point out numerous exceptions. Please don’t waste your time. If you have read this far please ‘Like’ and keep scrolling. I just wanted to share the photos and thought you might like them.

This is our first 2025 portrait of The Republic Austin under construction. We started documenting the construction of TheRepublic Austin on August 18th, 2022. The site’s hugest be best prior use was a parking lot. The contrast brings to mind the clever 1960’s tag line, “You’ve come a long way baby.”

There is a kind of wondrous energy created when strangers from every walk of life come together to synchronize their bodies and minds to practice yoga. To the uninitiated, their continuous flow of harmonious movements appear to act as some sort of spiritual conduit that connects them to one another, nature or possibly the divine, but your mileage may vary. It looks enjoyable and every Tuesday evening at 7:30 extends an invitation to everyone to participate for free on the great lawn in Republic Square in downtown Austin, TX, which has been beautifully designed and maintained by and the Downtown Austin Alliance. Maybe I will see you there.

The Rainey Street Trailhead ribbon cutting ceremony took place at 8 a.m. this morning and is another wonderful improvement to the trail surrounding Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. Thanks to The Trail Conservancy, what once was little more than a grassy knoll and shroud of trees is now a 2-acre park with over 50 species of shrubs, grasses, native plants, a nature-based playscape, children's stage, picnic and cafe tables, lawn chairs, benches, a bike repair station and a floating dock with enhanced lighting to illuminate the trail and park path.

The grand opening celebration is this Saturday, July 13th from 9-11 a.m.

No matter where you find yourself at sunset, the magic of the moment has an indescribable kind of power to slow down time and make one feel more alive. The spell binding sight of our Sun slowly descending beyond a distant horizon and the release of anticipation as it inevitably disappears fills one with a kind of satisfaction for holding onto the moment until the very end. At least that is my personal experience at the grand opening party of Residences at 6G. My humble reason for being there was to see and capture how people use and enjoy the outdoor amenities designed by the landscape architecture firm Nudge Design, then get the heck out of there. 😜
