The secret to an effortless brand session starts before your client even shows up.

I arrived early to this session and got the space ready before my client even walked in. First I set up my Westcott lighting. Then I moved on to hanging an orange backdrop, since I knew from our consultation that she wanted one of her outfits shot against orange. After that, I looked through the props in the space and thought through which ones would work best with each of her outfits.

By the time she arrived, all that was left was hanging her clothes on the rack, a quick makeup touch up, and a fast chat through the outfits before jumping straight into the session.

This is exactly why I always do a creative consultation call a couple weeks before every shoot. I already knew her outfits, her backdrop colors, and her prop picks going in, which made the whole session feel effortless. Instead of spending time figuring things out on the spot, we maximized every minute and captured intentional images she actually wanted.

Shot this on a whim because let’s be honest nothing hits harder than sparkling water after running around in the Texas heat for an hour. Sweaty, out of breath, reaching for that can like it’s the trophy.

Here’s the thing about a good brand shot: you’re not selling a drink, you’re selling the moment right before someone needs it. So instead of a plain product shot, I went looking for the craving and a tennis court just gets it. Same energy as the can itself: crisp, clean, no fuss, all bubbles.

The biggest myth about brand photos? That you need to already feel confident in front of the camera before you book. You don’t.

Before we even start shooting, we take a deep breath together. No rushing through anything! This isn’t a race, it’s your session.

A few things I walk every client through once we get going:

✨ Shift your weight onto your back leg — instant relaxed stance, no more “deer in headlights”

✨ Give your hands something to do. Rest one on your hip, hold your coffee, touch your collarbone. Idle hands read as tense.

✨ Turn slightly off-camera and bring your chin back to the lens, the most flattering angle for almost everybody.

You just show up. I’ll tell you exactly where to put your hands, how to stand, when to turn and we’ll go at whatever pace feels good to you.
