✨ Current state : REST✨

I’ve been enjoying sweet moments of rest and ease this season and though it feels unusual, I typically have 2-3 clients a month, it feels needed. This still moment has allowed me time to reflect on past and future experiences in this doulatog/student midwife role and though I’m not in some crazy planning mode I’m just so excited for the future.

📸photo by ya girl of course - my client rocked the heck out of those birth. This moment here, is the epitome of stillness. Well deserved.

Ok so, check it. I bought this shirt over a year ago…while sitting at a crossroads, trying to navigate which way to turn in regards to my midwifery studies. And BOOM. Life decided for me. Your favorite Black doula/birth photographer is officially now a STUDENT MIDWIFE 🙌🏾🎊 Can't wait to put the credentials CPM next to my name 💃🏿 Woop wooop!

Super grateful for all of the milestones it took to get here.

My heart has longed to be in this space, learning and growing, especially with my own birth traumas being what ignited it.

My practice has been about amplifying, and showing joy around Black centered birth. I can’t wait to be a reason someone chooses to birth their way as a soon to be Black midwife.

♥️♥️♥️ Black daddies and homebirths♥️♥️♥️

There’s nothing more amazing than seeing the participation of partners. Consoling during labor, assisting in catching baby during birth, and tending during postpartum is simply priceless.

This velvet du-rag is giving all the vibes. I’ll cherish this photo, and the sweet family in it forever. I’ll forever scream !!!

✨I can’t get over this gorgeous bump. And of course one of my favs doing her thang!

“•Intermittent Fetal Monitoring is a great option for low risk birthing people. Unlike contiounous fetal monitoring, intermittent monitoring is done with a hand held doppler every 15-30 mins during active labor and 5-15 mins during the pushing stage. This allows for freedom of movement and doesn't have the associated ceaseran and vaginal instrumental birth risks like contiounous EFM.

•It's important to know that taking a break from contiounous monitoring is NOT the same as intermittent monitoring.

•You may be asking well if the evidence shows intermittent monitoring is recommended for low risk birthing people why is contiounous monitoring routine? Good question, in my opinion one of the reasons is capacity. Intermittent monitoring requires a hands on, frequent approach that a large hospital with limited staff just may not have the capacity to do correctly. None the less, you have the right to make decisions about your care. If intermittent monitoring is your preference discuss it with your provider before hand or better yet when trying to decide on a provider see what their routine fetal monitoring procedures are.

•What was your expierence with fetal monitoring? “

Reflecting back on precious moments from last week’s birth ✨My client was so amp’d to meet his little one, mid conversation, while trying to suggest he takes some deep breaths, he busted out in push ups on the hospital floor. 🤣

He was such a great partner, a great listener, asks allll types of questions and made sure everyone who came in the room announced themselves. Supporting family members is literally the cherry on top.

✨World Breastfeeding Week✨

Are you planning to breastfeed?

Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria. It’s also been reported that babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months, without any formula, have fewer ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and diarrhea.

According to the CDC, the benefits from breastfeeding include:
✨Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for most babies. As the baby grows, the mother’s breast milk will change to meet her baby’s nutritional needs.
✨Breastfeeding can help protect babies against some short- and long-term illnesses and diseases.
✨Breastfed babies have a lower risk of asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
✨Breastmilk shares antibodies from the mother with her baby. These antibodies help babies develop a strong immune system and protect them from illnesses.
✨Breastfeeding has health benefits for the mother too!

I know some moms have reasons for not being able to breastfeed or have low supply and breastfeeding isn’t an option while others would prefer to exclusively pump and bottle feed. Whatever you choose, just know you are doing what’s best for your baby.
