Going through files from my road trip last November and found this photo of a Snowy Egret at the Jocelyn Nungaray Wildlife Refuge. I take so many shots when I am all caught up in these wildlife shoots. On initial review I often overlook some, so it’s good to go back and run through them again at a later date. Glad I found this one.

Sunset from the deck of our rental vaca home in Estes Park. Our place was perched on the side of the mountain and our view was splendiferous. Camera was the Nikon Z7II which I recently added back into the kit. It has amazing dynamic range which helps with editing. Lens used is the Tamron 16-30 f/2.8. Also new to the kit, this is a perfect ultra-wide zoom for travel.

Couple shots of Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park captured on our recent visit. Pleasant little one mile hike around the lake. Lots of tourists and the Park Service uses timed entry by permit to get in. Still it’s popular for a reason. Very beautiful area.

Bringing wonderfullness to a hotel stay

05/19/2026

Said goodbye to Pittsburgh this morning and I am back out on the road again. Tonight I am staying in Port Clinton, Ohio. My hotel is right on the shore of Lake Erie. I was born in Sandusky Hospital close to here, and my folks lived in this town for about a year after I was born. I have visited in the past. Even worked at the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky one summer when I was in college. Always loved the sunsets and the big skies here. It rained most of the day, until the very end when I got to take in the sun going down.

Yesterday I visited the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, near Suffolk VA. And….it rained heavily the whole time I was there, with minimal visibility. But it’s a historic site. Freed slaves and other Black people who were not ensnared in slavery lived there through the mid 1800’s. It is also an Underground Railroad location. These days it is primarily a wildlife refuge, and while I heard a lot of birds, the only photo I was able to get was of this fellow, who was just hanging by the side of the road. I hope to visit again when the weather is a little nicer. It’s a cool spot. And maybe I will see my friend here again.

This is what I love about road trips - encountering the unexpected. I had to grab something at BestBuy, so I had Siri find me the closest one. The store was right across the street from this well known facility.
