One of the more powerful moments for me this year was capturing the life and death struggle here on the Platte River. Bald Eagles will often harass the Sandhill cranes, prey on the weaker ones, given the right opportunity. These shots were taken from about 800 yards with a 600 mm lens. - This time the crane survived!

Spring isn't just Crane season; it is also when dozens of other birds migrate from their wintering grounds to points North. I was introduced to several new species this year, including the Blue Wing Teal.

FINALLY! WHOOPERS! Even though they are about 300 yards away from the road, there they are. In my first year observing and photographing crane season in Nebraska, I got my Whooping Crane sighting - 3 adults and 1 juvenile.
