Let us not forget that we live in a country that is built on values that were paid for with blood. While many of us "celebrate" please take time to remember those who aren't here because of their ultimate sacrifice.

On Sunday evening a Missouri State Park Ranger came across a single vehicle rollover accident between Pleasant Ridge and McDowell.

Rescue crews were immediately dispatched where multiple patients were treated. Highway VV was temporarily shut down in both directions but is now open to all traffic.

Just before midnight on Saturday, Monett Rural and Purdy Fire were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on Farm Road 1012, South of Farm Road 2050 in Barry County where the road had washed out around the bridge.

Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle abandoned and MSHP conducted the accident report.

The bridge is impassable will remain closed until Barry County can make repairs. Please use caution on dirt roads and near water crossings with the recent rainfall.

Today, while most of us are already well into our Memorial Day traditions, our local firefighters took time away from family to train on drills including search and rescue, rapid intervention and hose advancement.

How are you training? As firefighters, we must continually sharpen skills, practice scenarios, and strive to be at our peak. To be ready for the unexpected, requires continual diligence to avoid complacency and best serve our communities.

Severe weather brought lots of lightning to the Ozarks last night. One strike caused a small attic fire in Barry County. Quick action by the homeowner with a fire extinguisher proved effective.

An engine, tanker and ambulance responded to the scene to verify the fire was extinguished and look for hot spots.

Here is your reminder to check your household extinguishers and review your home fire safety plan.
