Finally back at it after a week of moving, unpacking a whole house while wrangling two toddlers 😅, and then getting knocked out by a cold, so I’m very ready to be sharing some pretty things again. 🤍

I had the BEST time creating fresh branding content for Dear Soul Candle Co. They’re an Aiken, SC based small business making handmade woodwick candles with seriously INCREDIBLE scents, and I already know y’all are going to love them.

We had so much fun during this shoot and even had a special little guest join us for part of it. 🥹

Don’t want your kids to have a digital footprint? That’s completely okay with me. 🤎

I know not every parent is comfortable having their children’s faces shared online, and choosing to book a photographer doesn’t mean you have to be.

There’s truly no right or wrong answer here. Some parents are completely comfortable sharing their kids online and others would rather keep them off social media entirely. It’s simply about what you feel comfortable with for your family.

If you’d prefer that your child’s photos stay completely private, just let me know! We can have that conversation before your session, and I will always respect your wishes. You never have to feel awkward asking.

One of my favorite parts of this job is getting to watch the little ones I photograph grow up! It feels like just yesterday I was photographing Frankie's newborn session, and somehow here we are celebrating his first birthday. Being invited back to capture these milestones is something I'll never take for granted.

It was also so special getting to witness his Doljabi, a beautiful Korean first birthday tradition where the birthday child chooses from a collection of symbolic objects representing different hopes for their future. I LOVE getting to experience traditions that are so meaningful to the families I photograph. Happy first birthday, Frankie. It has been such an honor watching your first year unfold. 🤍

Three quick photography tips for everyday life 🤎

One thing I'll always believe is that EVERYONE deserves beautiful photos of the people they love, not just when they hire a photographer, but on an ordinary Wednesday at home with nothing more than their phone. Here are three simple tips that can instantly improve the photos you're already taking (especially with kids!):

☀️ **Find a window.** Have your subject face a window (or stand just slightly turned toward it) and turn off any overhead lights. Soft, natural light will brighten their eyes, create beautiful skin tones, and instantly make your photos look more professional. Just avoid windows with direct midday sun pouring through them, as that can create harsh shadows.

📸 **Get on their level.** Instead of standing over your kids, crouch down and photograph them at eye level. It completely changes the perspective and makes the image feel so much more personal.

🧸 Don't make them say "cheese" or tell them to smile! Some of the BEST photos happen when kids are just being themselves. Instead of asking them to smile, ask a silly question, tell a joke, or let them keep playing. Genuine expressions and candid moments will almost always beat a forced smile.

Neither of these costs a penny, but together they'll make a huge difference in the photos you're already taking.
