The sunset was gorgeous, mama looked absolutely stunning, and dad was honestly the best the whole time. He had a little fan for her, carried the water, helped with things, and just kept checking on her in the sweetest way.

And that is what I loved most about this session.

Yes, the light was beautiful. Yes, the dresses were gorgeous. Yes, the location was perfect.

But what really stood out was the way they were together.

The way she looked at him.
The way he cared for her.
The way you could already feel how much this baby is loved, before they have even arrived.

That is always my favorite part of maternity sessions. It is not just about documenting what you looked like while you were pregnant. It is about remembering what this season felt like.

This beautiful girl came into the studio for a newborn model call with mom, dad, and big brother, and it was such a sweet morning.

Shannon and I had everything set up and ready to go, and big brother was so excited when they got there. Mom also brought a helper with her, which I always love.

For this session, we started with family pictures first since dad needed to head out for work, which is one of the things I love about newborn sessions. There is room to be flexible and move things around based on what your family needs.

After that, Miss Journey had her turn for all of her baby-only pictures, and y’all… her hair. She was just the sweetest little thing.

Newborn sessions don’t have to feel rushed or stressful. We follow baby’s cues, take our time, and make space for your family to just be together.

If you’re expecting and looking for a calm, baby-led newborn session in Augusta, Evans, Grovetown, Thomson, Aiken, Graniteville, Columbia, or anywhere in the CSRA, I’d love to help document those first sweet days.

I traveled up to North Carolina to photograph my niece’s first baby, and getting to be there with them so soon after he was born meant more than I can even put into words.

And honestly, this session was such a beautiful reminder that newborn photos do not have to be complicated.

We used a small little space in their home, their couch, their pillows, and pieces that already felt like them. I brought a few baby outfits with me, we went through clothing options for mom and dad, and kept everything simple, calm, and easy.

Because right after you have a baby, I get it — sometimes the idea of packing everything up and leaving the house feels like a lot.

I do have a studio in Augusta where I photograph newborn sessions, but in-home newborn sessions are also an option. And they can be just as beautiful, meaningful, and relaxed.

Your home does not have to be perfect.
You do not need a ton of space.
You do not have to have everything figured out.

Sometimes all we need is a cozy corner, your baby, and the people who love them most.

I love when families bring their full personality to a session — and this sweet family absolutely did.

They were so much fun to work with, had the BEST shoes — even in teeny tiny baby size — and yes, they brought their fur baby too.

And because I get asked this often:
"Can you include your dog in your family photos?" Absolutely.

Your pets are part of your family, and if they’re important to you, they’re important to the story we’re telling.

We were watching the weather pretty closely before this session, but it ended up being absolutely gorgeous. The light, the connection, the outfits, the pup… all of it came together so beautifully.

Such a fun evening with the sweetest family.

Lisa and I met up for coffee last year, and from the very beginning, we just clicked. She’s an incredibly talented birth photographer (seriously, her work is beautiful), and it’s been so fun staying connected over the past year.

So when she told me she was expecting, I was SO excited for her 💜

We got together earlier this year, and I was able to show her the studio and everything I’ve been working on… and I just knew I wanted her in this space for her maternity session.

And y’all… she absolutely brought it.

There’s something really special about photographing another photographer — especially one who understands just how meaningful this season is. This session felt calm, intentional, and just full of that quiet excitement that comes before everything changes.

Lisa, I am so incredibly happy for you. This next chapter is going to be such a beautiful one.
