Two juvenile Red-shouldered Hawks soaking up the morning sun. Moments like this don’t happen often—both birds perched in the open, completely relaxed, allowing me to observe a quiet side of their behavior. As young raptors, they’re still learning the skills they’ll need to survive, but for a few minutes they simply sat together, basking in the warmth and watching the world around them.

Watching wildlife moments like this is a reminder that there’s always something new to discover when you spend time in nature.

This Barred Owl came through the woods fast and low, weaving effortlessly between the trees. For a split second it broke into the open, wings fully spread and eyes locked ahead. The patterns in the feathers, the light coming through the wings, and the precision of its flight all came together in a single frame. Sometimes wildlife photography isn’t about luck—it’s about being ready when a fraction of a second finally arrives.

I’ve spent months searching for an owl, and when I finally found this Great Horned Owl, it didn’t take long to realize who was really watching who. Those piercing yellow eyes never left me for a second. Moments like this are why I keep heading back into the woods.
