Blinding lights 😵‍💫✨✨✨

I used to be yucky shy asking “would you like your picture taken” at events. Thinking I was disturbing party attendants, getting in their way from having fun.

Now I’m that photographer interrupting that last bite of passed shrimp hors d’oeuvres your hungry for for a group shot and lots of teeth. 📸😬

When you pass your shyness, and the limitations you put on yourself, and the limitations you think other people have, magic happens. Doors are open to receiving an awesome, genuine pictures.

The first image is clearly a mistake. Nothing is focused. Flash is incredibly intense. But weirdly works, for me at least. The energy of the party shows, attire is shining like a diamond, and it’s just fun!

Hunting for that shot 📸🧟‍♂️

If I had a BTS crew following me around during an event, the narrator would definitely be Sir David Attenborough.

“Here comes the eager photographer hiding behind the heavily cellophaned baskets. He sees his targets. Takes in a few breaths then pounces over baskets, raising his camera to his good eye. Composing the shot. FLASH! Targets are stunned but alive. Now we see targets wanting more pictures from this eager photographer dude, smiling even.”

Definitely love challenging my composition skills during gigs like this. Always trying to make a story, a feeling, an image that’s not static.

“You want to be a sandman?” ⛄️🏖️🎄

The holiday season is upon us! All across the world families are color coordinating and cheesing for their holiday portraits 📸 They’re being asked by their photographer to “fake laugh” or “walk together slowly holding hands.”

I was fortunate enough to collaborate with this family once again, so they knew how I run my sessions (including both prompts said above). We went for a beachy relaxed setting this year with lots of space to run around.

Ocean water was splashed, sand stuck between toes, contagious laughter shared.

And this being my first beach session I learned to bring something to wipe my lens other than your wet sleeve.

SelfPortraits 🧀

Am I the only photographer that does this? I plan my self portraits around when I get a haircut. My hair gets unmanageable when it’s long and it’s the worst to photoshop! So short hair for me equals opportunity to smile for the camera 😄

I used continuous lighting and my new dual sided backdrop.

Sharing a gaggle of images that needed time in the sun and off my camera roll.

Took these with my iPhone, and some while peddling on a bike. Played around with long exposure and composed to give objects space to breathe. Hands are finally steady enough for those LE!

Love the timelessness and nostalgia of summers at the Jersey Shore 🌞🎰

My favorite shot has to be the dad winding up his punch for an arcade game, his fam capturing the intense moment. Not the best composed shot but the story is there.

And definitely the bird perched on top of the Sprite sign is classic! 🦅

I thought he wanted me to delete the pics…😱

A risky part of street photography is a bad confrontation with someone, and I thought one was about to happen with this skateboarder lifeguard.

I was observing the boardwalk for a subject and he happened to be riding his skateboard right in front of me. I quickly snapped an ill composed shot of him whizzing by. A half minute later I hear someone asking if I took a picture of him, I turn around and it’s him. I’m a bad liar so I honestly said I took a horrible shot of him but was down to take better ones. Thankfully he agreed, I removed my street photography hat and donned my portraiture one, and we created awesome images together!

Seaside Heights NJ 🎢🌊

There really is NOTHING quite like the Jersey Shore!

Had the chance to visit the famous Seaside Heights Boardwalk last week, met great people and awesome sights.

Used my Sony A7III body, 50mm lens with two filters. Filter one is an ND filter to help simmer the bright day light, also slapped a 1/4 diffusion filter for some fun! Thought it would add nice highlight effects ✨

What’s not pictured is the amount of butter and bread I ate. Oh yeah and Guinness 🍻

I used my 35mm lens with a ND filter on my body. I would love to get a smaller body for street work in the future, the current body plus a fat lens gets tiring.
