The brief part of the story behind my trip and this portrait series…
These photos were taken after a usual 24 hour trip that went 48 after finding out my son couldn’t leave Ecuador, to hopping right off the plane to an Uber with my luggage to photographing the first set of people on a few hours of rest.
There was so much adrenaline in being a part of a community that gives me space to be an ARTIST. It says- we trust your vision. There was no planning on my part. I met almost all of them on set and had 15 mins to figure out how to use the space that was given to capture the beauty in them I see. I only had my camera, a 24-70mm lens, building lights and windows. And I had to believe in myself that I could do it — with a cup of matcha high on creativity🤣
We damn near pulled an impossible with faith…spiritual and physically. It was no coincidence that *Faith* Carmichael made the call. And giving me a place to stay for a few days, I saw how she lost sleep and even used her own resources to pull this off. It’s what you call HEART with a beautiful team of people Next Atlanta who brought their A game on support! It was an honor to not only be a part of it but to witness it as well.
And in spite of all the hurdles I had, everything fell into place beautifully. To worry about anything meant to have some kind of doubt that the Creator wouldn’t provide a way out of no way and uncertainty. —I trust in my path and purpose. I’ve been trained to walk in the darkness of uncertainty. It only made sense to me that I was faced with so much opposition. I just knew not to fold.
This is my definition of magic. And the visual results of that is on display for people to see. To me that’s the dopest s**t ever.
