The Comet Neowise seen from Brasstown Bald in North Georgia. This comet was named for the telescope that first discovered it, and it is passing Earth for the next few days. Astronomers first noticed it back in March, and it was only a weeks or so ago that it became visible to stargazers on earth. It first appeared above the horizon in the pre-dawn light, but has since transitioned to a nighttime viewing. Its' tail is about 3 miles long, and it can be seen with the naked eye in the North West sky, below the Big Dipper.
There's hope that it'll be visible until the 22nd, but there's no guarantee.
When it disappears, it will not return for almost 6800 years. (6766, to be more accurate.)
To the naked eye, it's more green than the white this picture hints at, but my 2nd picture reflects the naked eye more.
Yeah it's not visually appealing, but it's amazing to see it for yourself.
