One of the things I was really looking for during my trip was some abstract shots as I knew Death Valley would offer a lot of drought-like shots like this.

Once I parked and started my hike through the dunes at night I just knew that I needed to get to the tallest point to get the best perspective of all the dunes. In case you weren’t aware walking up sand is not easy or normal but with camera gear and no light it’s a bit harder. Here is a composition I got from the peak once the sun started to creep into the park. I have many more on the way.

This is from my second morning in Death Valley. I’ve got to say there is no workout quite like walking up sand dunes with camera gear, but it was well worth it.

I only had a single opportunity to get a sunrise at Alabama Hills, so I had to leave my hotel in Death Valley at 3am, drive 2 hours west, and then go on a small hike to Mobius Arch. Glad I had a full moon to help light the hike. This shot is about an hour before sunrise.

What a photographer’s paradise. Alabama Hills is such a unique place with all the different rock formations. There was a small creek that flowed between all these formations and all along the creek somehow there were trees in peak colors in December. Maybe Mt Whitney in the back shields the valley from winds 🤷🏻‍♂️. Idk but this one tree caught my eye.

From my previous post, we were headed to Seward, Alaska to hop on an 8-hour boat tour of the Kenai Fjords National Park. This was taken from the port about 5 minutes into the 8-hour trip. Definitely set the stage for everything we were about to see.

As we woke up at 2:30am to get out of the hotel by 3 and start our drive from Anchorage to Seward, we stopped at dozens of pull outs to take pics and take in the scenery. As we rounded the main bend of the highway I looked out the window, caught this reflection with my eye, and immediately had to pull over and run with my tripod to get this pano shot.

In Vegas for a conference, decided to come up two days early to try my luck in the Valley of Fire state park. The first day was good but I woke up late so I decided to double down the next morning and glad I did. One of my most intense sunrises I’ve experienced. Also decided the contrast will look cool so cycling between warm (Nevada, Death Valley) and cool (Alaska). Inspiration from Marlon Holden’s work.
