Watching the growth of the onion’s flower continues to bring me joy.

Onion flowers. About four or five weeks ago I noticed that one of the organic onions we had bought at our local grocery store but hadn’t gotten around to using, had started to push out some short green shoots.

I decided to plant it in an empty planter on my deck, just to see what might happen. After a few days I noticed the shoots were growing. Two of the shoots developing onion shaped heads. Those heads are now opening and these tiny flowers have appeared.

I don’t shoot a lot of selfies, but this morning I needed a subject to test how well the Profoto Camera iPhone app works when using a Profoto B20 monolight flash as illuminant when shooting with my iPhone 14 Pro. I set the app to shoot in auto mode and record the image in ProfotoRaw (DNG) format. Except for adding a slight bit of dark vignette and flipping the image so the image is right reading, this is to the corners this is straight out of the iPhone with no further processing.

Is being able to use high quality lflash lighting a game changer for photographers? In the right hands it might be. I’m going to have to do some further testing on real world subjects.

I have heard Richard Thompson perform live maybe ten times since 1983 or 1984, both solo and with a band. This was maybe the best. He sang and played with vigor -and clearly was enjoying himself.

If you haven’t heard of him before he is not only only one of the very best guitarists of the past sixty years in any genre, but also a great songwriter - don’t take my word for it, ask any musician or songwriter.
