Tyler Perry is an American billionaire actor, filmmaker, playwright, and entrepreneur widely recognized for creating the character Madea and founding Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
He established the Tyler Perry Foundation in 2009 to support economically disadvantaged youth, seniors, and families, donating through it to groups like Feeding America, the NAACP, Charity: Water, and Covenant House. Since 2008, he has funded clean water access for an estimated 65,079 people across Ethiopia, Haiti, India, and Cambodia. In 2009, he gave the NAACP a $1 million gift for its centennial, and after the 2010 Haiti earthquake he pledged $250,000 and later raised it to a full $1 million. More recently, he donated $1.4 million to Atlanta and Los Angeles-area organizations including the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Meals on Wheels Atlanta, and Baby2Baby to help offset a food crisis tied to SNAP benefit reductions. He received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2021 Academy Awards for his work feeding vulnerable communities during the pandemic. Much of his giving — covering funerals, paying seniors' property taxes, building a home for an elderly woman fighting to keep her land — has reportedly been done quietly, without publicity.
His tracked aircraft has logged 1,137 flights since 2020, including 40 this year, for a pace of 3.26 flights/week over the 6.7-year tracking window. Across the 659 flights with fuel data, it's burned an estimated 761,995 gallons of Jet A, worth roughly $4.8 million at typical FBO retail (~$6.25/gal) — $333k of that this year — and corresponding to about 7,292 metric tons of CO₂ released over the tracking period.
